Low Voltage Maintenance Technician III

DESCRIPTION
The Level III Service & Support Technician is a highly skilled professional responsible for performing advanced service, maintenance, and troubleshooting of low voltage and detention equipment systems.
This role serves as a technical leader in the field, supporting the execution of service work while assisting the Field Supervisor with coordination and guidance of junior technicians. This role is primarily a handson role, focused on resolving complex system issues, supporting installations, and ensuring high-quality workmanship across all service activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of integrated systems, including issues beyond the scope of Level I and II technicians
• Service and maintain CCTV, access control, intercom, video visitation, duress, structured cabling, fiber optics, and detention locking systems
• Execute system upgrades, repairs, and minor installations as directed
• Assist with system programming, configuration, and network connectivity
• Provide on-site technical guidance and support to junior technicians
• Assist the Field Supervisor with task execution, job progress, and field coordination
• Lead small crews or specific tasks when assigned, ensuring work is completed efficiently and correctly
• Serve as a go-to resource in the field for troubleshooting and technical questions
• Ensure all work meets company standards, project specifications, and applicable codes (electrical, building, OSHA)
• Maintain detailed documentation of system designs, installation procedures, service, and maintenance activities
• Support installation and service of systems as needed, including routing and terminating wiring, conduit installation, and mounting equipment
• Demonstrate exemplary work ethic, safety compliance, and attention to detail, serving as a role model for the team
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
• High school diploma or GED required; technical or associate degree in electronics, IT, or related field preferred
• 5+ years of experience in low voltage, electrical, or IT field service, with a proven track record in a supervisory role
• Advanced technical expertise in CCTV, access control, intercom, video visitation, duress, structured cabling, fiber optics, and network systems
• Proficiency in advanced computer networking concepts, network device configuration, and system programming
• Mastery of cable preparation, splicing, and termination for structured cabling, including network, security, and communication systems
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical lock systems, including cylindrical, mortise, and rim locks, motorized and manual detention equipment, and sliding door systems
• Ability to perform complex troubleshooting and repairs with minimal supervision
• Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Industry-recognized certifications preferred, including manufacturer-specific credentials for specialized systems
• OSHA-30 certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire)

SUPERVISION
This position reports directly to the Service & Support Field Supervisor and works with a high degree of independence in the field. The Level III Technician receives general direction on project scope, priorities, and deadlines while exercising advanced judgment in planning and performing complex installations, service, maintenance, system integration, and troubleshooting activities. This role serves as a technical lead in the field, providing day-to-day guidance, training, and support to Level I and Level II technicians, coordinating assigned work, and helping resolve escalated technical issues. The Level III Technician may lead small crews, oversee specific phases of work, and collaborate closely with project leadership to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards, specifications, and procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The SSD Level III Technician works in in a variety of environments, including active construction sites, secure facilities, and correctional/detention facilities with strict security protocols. Travel to job sites is required, including local, overnight, and extended travel assignments (multiple days or weeks at a time) as needed, and requires use of a dependable personal vehicle capable of safely transporting ladders, tools, and service-related equipment to and from job sites.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to lift, carry, and move tools, materials, and equipment, including items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and climb as needed to perform installation, service, and inspection activities.
• Ability to work from ladders, lifts, and in elevated or confined spaces as required by job site conditions.
• Ability to use hands and fingers for handling tools, wiring, and small components, and to maintain visual acuity sufficient to read blueprints, labels, and diagnostic information.
• Ability to work safely in a variety of environments, including construction sites, secure facilities, and correctional or detention settings, and to wear required personal protective equipment.
• Ability to travel to assigned job sites and safely transport necessary tools, materials, and equipment as required for the position.
