    Job description

    About Coffeeangel

Coffeeangel believes in the special in specialty coffee. That applies to every part of the experience: the care in each cup, the warmth of our service, the way our teams work together, and the attitude we bring to every shift.

We are an independent specialty coffee business built on strong systems, consistent quality, and genuine hospitality. Our people are craftspeople and hosts, not just staff behind a counter.

    The Role

We are looking for a Commis Chef to join our Ballymun production kitchen team, supporting bread, pastry, sandwich, and prepared food production for Coffeeangel cafés. The Commis Chef is an integral part of the kitchen team, working under the guidance of the Chef de Partie and Kitchen Manager, focusing on foundational food preparation and maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organisation to keep the kitchen running smoothly. This is an entry-level chef position, earning between €14.90 and €15.15 per hour, where you will learn essential culinary skills with shifts that may include early mornings, evenings, and weekends depending on the needs of the production kitchen.

    What you’ll do

    • Assist in preparing ingredients and mise en place according to recipes and standards.
    • Learn and execute basic cooking techniques under supervision.
    • Prepare simple dishes and components as assigned.
    • Follow portion control guidelines to minimise waste and maintain consistency in food quality and presentation.
    • Work collaboratively with kitchen team members and support colleagues during busy periods.
    • Take direction from the Chef de Partie and senior kitchen staff and communicate clearly about task completion and any issues.
    • Keep your workstation clean, organised, and well-stocked.
    • Assist with receiving and proper storage of deliveries and report stock shortages.
    • Help maintain kitchen equipment in good working order and support efficient service flow during peak times.
    • Follow all food safety and hygiene protocols strictly, including HACCP procedures and temperature checks.
    • Wear appropriate protective equipment at all times and report any health and safety concerns immediately.
    • Participate in ongoing food safety training.

    You must be

    Essential

    • Genuine interest in cooking and developing your culinary skills.
    • Able to follow instructions and recipes accurately.
    • Good organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
    • Physical stamina to work full shifts on your feet in a busy kitchen.
    • Willing to learn and accept constructive feedback.
    • Reliable with good timekeeping.
    • Basic understanding of kitchen hygiene practices and a commitment to maintaining high standards.

    Nice to have

    • Previous kitchen or hospitality experience, including home or informal settings.
    • Food safety certification or willingness to obtain it.
    • Understanding of basic cooking methods and terminology.
    • Experience working in a team environment.
    • Flexibility to work varied shifts including weekends.

    What we offer

    • Pension auto-enrolment: 1.5% employer contribution.
    • Paid birthday day off after successful completion of probation.
    • Statutory annual leave, public holiday entitlements, and statutory sick pay in line with Irish law.
    • Free on-shift food and coffee.
    • Cycle to Work scheme.

    Progression & Growth

    • Clear kitchen career path: Commis Chef → Chef de Partie → Kitchen Supervisor → Head Chef / Production Kitchen Head Chef, with defined rate ranges at each step.
    • Progression is based on reliability, hygiene standards, initiative, willingness to learn, and contribution to team operations—not just time served.

    Working conditions

    • Fast‑paced production kitchen environment with mostly standing work, peak busy times, and exposure to heat, noise, and occasional heavy lifting.

If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!
