    Job Summary:  

    The Estimating Manager is responsible for leading the estimating efforts and overseeing the preparation of accurate, competitive project estimates for utility-scale renewable energy construction projects, including Solar, Substations and BESS. This role manages the estimating team and serves as the Bid Captain for key opportunities, coordinating the bid process from initial request through proposal submission. This position will be client facing; the Estimating Manager shall be professional and confident in their presentation of all estimates and bids both internally and externally.  

    Supervisory Responsibilities:   

    The Estimating Manager oversees the estimating team, including Estimator I, Estimator II, and Senior Estimator roles. This position provides guidance, review, and mentorship to ensure estimates meet company standards for accuracy, completeness, and competitiveness. If there is a discipline lacking in completeness, the Estimating Manager shall support the finalization to ensure a successful final product.  

    Duties/Responsibilities: 

    • Conduct in-depth review of all RFP packages that CP is actively pursuing.
    • Lead the estimating team in the preparation of cost estimates for solar, substation, BESS, and related energy infrastructure projects. 
    • Review and validate estimates and bids prepared by Estimator I, Estimator II, and Senior Estimator roles. 
    • Review and validate all supporting documentation to bid submissions are accurately and proficiently complete and ready for presentation/submittal. 
    • Estimating Manager will be in charge of all General Conditions and Overhead within the estimates. 
    • Ensure estimates reflect accurate labor productivity assumptions, equipment requirements, and construction methods. 
    • Maintain consistency in estimating practices, methodologies, and documentation. 
    • Serve as Bid Captain for assigned project pursuits, coordinating all activities related to bid preparation and submission. 
    • Establish bid schedules, assign responsibilities, and ensure deadlines are met. 
    • Coordinate inputs from estimating, engineering, procurement, operations, and project management teams. 
    • Lead internal bid review meetings and ensure all proposal requirements are satisfied. 
    • Review project plans, specifications, and contract documents to understand scope requirements. 
    • Identify opportunities, risks, scope gaps, and constructability considerations that may impact cost or schedule. 
    • Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to confirm construction approaches and resource requirements. 
    • Develop project pricing strategies aligned with company goals and market conditions. 
    • Review labor productivity assumptions, subcontractor pricing, equipment costs, and material pricing. 
    • Work with procurement teams to obtain vendor and subcontractor quotes when required. 
    • Coordinate preparation of bid deliverables including cost estimates, clarifications, and supporting documentation. 
    • Ensure proposals meet client requirements and company standards. 
    • Participate in proposal review and approval processes with leadership. 
    • Partner with project management and field leadership to validate assumptions related to labor, equipment, logistics, and construction sequencing. 
    • Support project handoff to operations following successful award. 
    • Support development and refinement of estimating standards, templates, and tools. 
    • Identify opportunities to improve estimating accuracy, efficiency, and data utilization. 
    • Maintain estimating databases, cost history, and benchmarking resources. 
    • Ensure consistent communication with the construction team(s) to allow for transparent lessons learned to better improve estimates and bids moving forward.

    Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

    • Strong leadership and coordination skills. 
    • Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously in fast-paced environments. 
    • Strong analytical and cost evaluation abilities. 
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments. 
    • Ability to identify project risks and translate them into cost implications. 
    • Confidence and professionalism to present to internal and external parties. 


    Education/Experience: 

    • 7+ years of experience in construction estimating, preferably within renewable energy, electrical construction, or heavy civil infrastructure. 
    • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field. 
    • Experience preparing estimates for utility-scale solar, BESS, substation, or similar energy infrastructure projects. 
    • Experience leading bid efforts or coordinating complex proposals. 
    • Strong understanding of construction methods, labor productivity, and project cost drivers. 


    Physical Requirements:  

    • When working in the office. Occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing; frequent hand/eye coordination to operate computer keyboard and office equipment; vision for reading, recording and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and other team members. 
    • When navigating a job site, the ability to move around project sites, which may involve walking, climbing stairs, and navigating uneven terrain. 

    Travel: 

    • As necessary to perform business operations.
