    LEAD TECHNICAL/BUSINESS SYSTEMS ANALYST
    (Full Time, Salary, Exempt)

Looking to join a growing company dedicated to helping others? We offer that, plus competitive salaries, a culture of learning, and a fast-paced environment. This is a hybrid position with 3 days in-office. Join our team to help make a difference in the lives of others!

Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We do not sponsor employment visas or other immigration processes to attain or maintain employment eligibility. Remote positions are open to applicants based anywhere in the continental U.S. Hybrid positions are open to applicants based in the Austin, Texas area.

    About Continental General:

The Continental General family of companies has provided insurance, including life and long-term care policies, to individuals and groups for over 30 years, and currently supports over 200,000 policyholders. Both our insurance company, Continental General Insurance Company, and our third-party administrator, Continental General Services, are committed to the continuous development of our infrastructure, processes, and people. The group is actively growing through expansion of both its insurance portfolio and its administrative services. With each opportunity, we take a collaborative approach to address challenges and provide unique solutions.

    Position Summary:

The Lead Technical/Business Systems Analyst partners with the AI Product Engineering Director to turn business needs into development-ready work for a small, build-focused product engineering team. This role combines business and technical analysis with product-owner-style backlog ownership: eliciting and documenting requirements, prioritizing and refining the team’s backlog, and serving as the primary liaison between stakeholders and engineers across the product lifecycle.

This is a hands-on individual contributor role on a small team, not a manager position. The analyst is expected to work directly with both business stakeholders and engineers day to day, translating ambiguous requests into clear, actionable requirements and helping the team stay focused on the highest-value work. Solutions the team builds follow a cloud-first, AWS-native approach and apply AI-enabled capabilities wherever appropriate; the analyst is expected to understand these approaches well enough to write requirements against them, without needing to build them personally.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Requirements & Business Analysis

    • Elicit, document, and validate business and technical requirements from stakeholders across the organization, translating ambiguous or high-level requests into clear, development-ready specifications.
    • Analyze current-state processes, systems, and data flows to identify gaps, dependencies, and opportunities for automation or improvement.
    • Create and maintain requirements artifacts (user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, data mappings) that engineers can build against without further translation.
    • Partner with engineers throughout development to clarify requirements and validate that delivered work matches the original business intent.
    • Establish and maintain the team's requirements documentation standards and definition-of-ready criteria for work entering the backlog.

    Backlog Ownership & Prioritization

    • Own and maintain the team’s backlog, working with the Director to prioritize work against business value, technical dependencies, and team capacity.
    • Facilitate backlog refinement sessions to ensure work items are clear, sized, and ready for development.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders regarding product requirements, priorities, and status; accept or reject completed work against defined acceptance criteria.
    • Participate in Agile ceremonies (planning, standups, reviews, retrospectives), representing the business perspective and helping remove roadblocks for the team.
    • Define and evolve the team's backlog management practices, including refinement cadence, prioritization framework, and definition of done.

    Stakeholder Collaboration

    • Build strong working relationships with business and technology partners across the organization to understand priorities and needs.
    • Communicate progress, risks, and dependencies clearly to stakeholders and leadership.
    • Coordinate with other product owners, analysts, and delivery teams to manage cross-team dependencies and avoid duplicated or conflicting work.
    • Represent the team's requirements and delivery priorities in cross-team, vendor, and leadership discussions.

    Delivery Support & Continuous Improvement

    • Support user acceptance testing and validation activities, ensuring delivered work meets business requirements before release.
    • Monitor delivered products for adoption and effectiveness, feeding findings and enhancement ideas back into the backlog.
    • Maintain clear, current documentation of requirements, decisions, and process changes.
      Compliance & Governance
    • Ensure requirements and delivered solutions align with applicable regulatory, security, and compliance requirements, including HIPAA, SOC 2, and insurance regulatory frameworks, escalating concerns as needed.
    • Handle sensitive data and PII/PHI with appropriate care when working with requirements, samples, or test data.
    • Compliance & Governance
    • Ensure requirements and delivered solutions align with applicable regulatory, security, and compliance requirements, including HIPAA, SOC 2, and insurance regulatory frameworks, escalating concerns as needed.
    • Handle sensitive data and PII/PHI with appropriate care when working with requirements, samples, or test data.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
    • 6+ years of experience in business/systems analysis, product ownership, or a similar hybrid role, ideally supporting a software engineering or platform team.
    • Experience gathering and documenting requirements for technical products and translating them into development-ready work.
    • Experience owning or contributing to a product backlog in an Agile environment.
    • Experience delivering technology solutions within a regulated industry such as insurance, healthcare, or financial services.
    • Experience working directly with a small, technical build team rather than a large program is a plus.

    Competencies:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent communication skills, able to translate fluently between business and technical audiences.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Ownership mentality — proactive in identifying and framing work, not just executing assigned tasks.
    • Comfort operating with less structure and support than a larger team would provide.
    • Comfortable making requirements and prioritization calls under ambiguity, without waiting for direction.

    Technical Skills:

    • Experience eliciting, documenting, and managing requirements for software products (user stories, acceptance criteria, process and data flow diagrams).
    • Familiarity with Agile delivery practices and tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
    • Enough working knowledge of technical concepts (APIs, data flows, system integrations) to translate business needs into development-ready specifications and communicate fluently with engineers.
    • Comfort working directly with data (spreadsheets, basic queries, reporting tools) to support analysis and validate outcomes.
    Why Join Us?
    • Competitive salary and benefits, including 401(k), health insurance, and performance-based bonuses.
    • Collaborative and fast-paced work environment.
    • Professional development and growth opportunities within the finance and investment space.
    Benefits:
    • Competitive Salary & Target Bonus Program
    • Retirement Savings – 401(k) with a company match
    • Comprehensive Medical insurance through BlueCross BlueShield of Texas. Company-paid dental, vision, short-term & long-term disability, and life insurance.
    • Work-Life Balance – This role offers 20+ days of PTO, 10 paid holidays, and paid volunteer time off.
    • Flexible Work Options & Perks – Hybrid opportunity, wellness programs, and weekly paid lunch for onsite staff.
    • Health Savings Accounts (HSA) & Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) – Includes a company match for HSAs.
