Deputy Sheriff Recruits are paid to attend a six month law enforcement academy at the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy located at 1200 Church Street, Lynchburg, VA. To view the schedule for the basic law enforcement academy click here: https://www.cvcja.org/courses-and-training/
After successfully completing the academy, Deputy Sheriff Recruits will complete an approximately three month field training program prior to being released on their own.

This position acts as a representative of the Bedford County Sheriff's Office. General duties include enforcing criminal laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Education/Experience:
Must be a High School graduate or possess a General Education Degree Certificate or equivalent.
Special/Additional Requirements:
Subject to a complete criminal history and background investigation, drug screening, medical screening, polygraph, psychological and Lawfit physical agility assessment all with acceptable results. Will be required to work beyond a normal schedule to include rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime to meet the needs of the department. This position is designated as essential personnel. In accordance with the County's personnel policy, essential personnel are critical to the continuation of key operations and services and are expected to report to work, unless otherwise directed by management, in all weather conditions.
