    Job description

    Case Aide

    Crisis Center of Comal County
    Location: New Braunfels, TX
    Department: Shelter
    Reports to: Director of Shelter
    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Join a Mission That Changes Lives

At the Crisis Center of Comal County (CCCC), our mission is to embrace survivors of crisis and trauma and empower them to positively change the trajectory of their lives.

Every day, survivors arrive at our shelter looking for safety, support, and a place to begin again. As a Case Aide, you'll be one of the people who helps make that possible. From answering the crisis hotline and welcoming families into shelter to helping with transportation, daily activities, meal preparation, and the many details that keep shelter life running smoothly, you'll play an important role in creating a safe, supportive environment where survivors can begin to heal and move forward.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is compassionate, adaptable, calm under pressure, and genuinely enjoys helping people. If you're a natural problem-solver who looks for ways to say "yes," thrives in a team environment, and wants your work to have a direct impact on the lives of survivors and families, we'd love to have you on our team.

    About the Role

As a Case Aide, you'll provide direct support to shelter clients while helping ensure the shelter remains a safe, welcoming, and well-organized environment. You'll respond to crisis calls, assist with shelter intake, provide crisis intervention and safety planning, support residents throughout their shelter stay, coordinate transportation, assist with meal preparation and cleanup, and help clients stay connected to their daily goals and activities.

No two days are exactly alike. This position is ideal for someone who can think on their feet, stay grounded during difficult situations, build trust with clients, and work collaboratively with shelter and case management staff.

    What You'll Do

    • Answer the Crisis Hotline and provide compassionate, trauma-informed crisis intervention, safety planning, information, and referrals to callers.
    • Create a safe, warm, and welcoming space for individuals discussing trauma, domestic violence, sexual assault, homelessness, and other crises.
    • Provide safety planning and basic family violence education to callers and shelter residents.
    • Support emergency shelter admissions by coordinating transportation, assisting with intake, and helping create a warm and supportive transition into shelter.
    • Provide ongoing crisis intervention, encouragement, and practical support to individuals and families residing in shelter.
    • Work alongside Case Managers to help clients identify and achieve daily and weekly goals.
    • Provide safe, reliable transportation for clients using shelter vehicles, including a van and 14-passenger bus.
    • Transport and obtain shelter supplies, meals, and other needed items while maintaining appropriate documentation and vehicle cleanliness.
    • Assist with meal preparation, serving, and cleanup as needed to support the daily operation of the shelter.
    • Help coordinate daily shelter activities, appointments, meetings, and other services that support client stability and successful shelter stays.
    • Help maintain organized, welcoming, and functional shelter common areas and supply spaces.
    • Support a calm and respectful shelter environment by following policies, responding to client needs, and addressing concerns through established protocols.
    • Assist clients with participation in house meetings, groups, appointments, and other shelter activities.
    • Maintain timely and accurate client documentation, case notes, forms, and required reports.
    • Participate in staff meetings, case reviews, trainings, and other activities that support quality client care and professional growth.
    • Participate in the agency's Sexual Assault Crisis Response on-call rotation.
    • Represent CCCC professionally in the community and support outreach, fundraising activities, and special events as assigned.
    • Protect the confidentiality and privacy of clients and agency information at all times.

    Who You Are

    • You believe every survivor deserves safety, dignity, compassion, and the opportunity to build a better future.
    • You are a people person who can build trust while maintaining healthy professional boundaries.
    • You remain calm and compassionate when situations become stressful or unpredictable.
    • You are a problem-solver who looks for solutions and finds ways to say "yes" whenever possible while following safety protocols and agency guidelines.
    • You are comfortable working with people who may be experiencing trauma, crisis, homelessness, or intense emotions.
    • You are flexible and able to shift priorities quickly when client or shelter needs change.
    • You are dependable, organized, and willing to jump in wherever you're needed to support the team.
    • You communicate respectfully and effectively with clients, coworkers, supervisors, and community partners.
    • You are open to feedback, committed to learning, and interested in growing professionally.
    • You understand that sometimes the most important thing you can do is simply show up, listen, and help.

    What You'll Bring

    • High school diploma or GED required; some college preferred. A bachelor's degree in social work or a related social services field is a plus.
    • Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
    • One to two years of experience working in a social service environment preferred.
    • Knowledge of crisis intervention, social work principles, ethics, family violence, or related areas preferred.
    • Experience working with individuals or families experiencing homelessness or other significant life challenges preferred.
    • Ability to recognize problems, gather information, and identify appropriate solutions using established shelter protocols.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and electronic client management systems.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to communicate with clients in a courteous, respectful, and client-focused manner.
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
    • Current, valid Texas driver's license and proof of auto liability insurance.
    • Ability to safely operate shelter vehicles, including a van and 14-passenger bus.
    • Ability to pass an extensive background check, including fingerprinting, drug screen, and driver's record check.
    • First Aid and CPR certification required; may be completed after hire with agency support.
    • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts as assigned.
