Crowe MacKay LLP is a vibrant team of Chartered Professional Accountants with eight markets across Northern and Western Canada. We are a growth-oriented, entrepreneurial firm dedicated to fostering a diverse team that values collaboration and appreciates different perspectives and experiences. We believe strong relationships are the cornerstone to success as we strive to create innovative solutions for our clients.

    Our Core Values

We Care, We Share, We Invest and We Grow!

Collectively we strive for a culture that promotes success for all. In doing so, we recognize that our professionals are more than their work. Our team has the freedom to manage their time to nurture core relationships and to pursue their passions and aspirations. We trust our team to meet their commitments in a flexible environment that fosters energy management and encourages focused work.

    The Role

Staff Accountants are responsible for performing routine and increasingly complex accounting and tax services under the direct supervision of an engagement lead. These individuals are expected to apply both their formal education and in-house training in practical settings. Staff accountants have a high level of perseverance, integrity, honesty and self-accountability as you are in a period of intensive learning where your formal education is enhanced though practical application.

As experience is gained, Staff Accountants progress from working on basic audit items to more advanced tasks. They develop proficiency in using CaseView/CaseWare to import complex trial balances, set up file sections, and link and format financial statements, including manual statements. Responsibilities include reviewing system summaries and engagement scoping documents, completing walkthroughs, and preparing quality working papers for compilations, review engagements, and audits.

Staff Accountants assist in analyzing and documenting internal controls and organizational structures for larger audits and may test assigned sections.  They are involved in preparing T2 only returns, compilations and moderate to difficult T1 returns.

Throughout all engagements, they are expected to maintain timely and effective communication with the engagement lead, ensure working papers are clear and properly signed off, and complete all necessary checklists and queries. Client interaction is generally limited to basic communications, with increased responsibility and independence as experience grows.

    What You Will Bring

Equipped with a University degree and aspirations to pursue a CPA Designation, we are looking for team members that maintain the following knowledge, abilities and skills:

    • Strong analytical & problem solving
    • Exceptional verbal and written communication
    • Ability to prioritize work and meet commitments
    • Strong commitment to excellence and attention to detail
    • Professional curiosity and ownership of personal career goals
    • Community focused

Working knowledge of accounting standards, accounting and tax software such as Caseware, Taxprep, QuickBooks/Sage etc are also considered as asset.

If you have an adventurous spirit and want to be a part of a winning team – we want to hear from you.

    What We Offer

We are committed to being an employer of choice where employees are excited, engaged, empowered, and eager to excel both personally and professionally. We offer a flexible and positive work environment and invest resources to support a competitive compensation/benefits package including paid vacation, sick, overtime, volunteer days and study leave.  We also offer extended health and dental, an employee assistance program, and an RRSP matching program.   Starting salary for staff accountants is $62,000.

We are invested in facilitating the development of our team by creating a continuous learning environment that is supported through high-quality mentorship, academic assistance, practical experience and training.

At Crowe MacKay, we are dedicated to creating a diverse environment. We foster a barrier free work environment that’s inclusive and where our people can be themselves.
