The 1:1 Special Education (SPED) Aide provides individualized support to an assigned student throughout the school day, enabling the student to access instruction, participate meaningfully in classroom and school activities, and make progress toward identified educational goals. The SPED Aide works collaboratively with classroom teachers, the Special Education team, and other school personnel to implement appropriate accommodations, instructional supports, and behavioral strategies as directed by the student’s educational plan.
The SPED Aide assists the student with academic tasks, classroom routines, organization, transitions, and participation in school activities while encouraging the development of independence, self-advocacy, and appropriate social skills. The aide reinforces strategies established by the classroom teacher and Special Education team and provides appropriate support without unnecessarily limiting the student’s
opportunities for independent learning and interaction with peers.
The SPED Aide maintains a safe, positive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment and supports the student’s academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development. The aide assists with transitions between classes and activities, provides supervision and support as appropriate, and communicates relevant observations or concerns to the supervising teacher and Special Education team.
The SPED Aide is expected to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student information and to conduct themselves professionally and respectfully at all times. The position requires flexibility, patience, sound judgment, and a commitment to helping the student experience success within the least restrictive environment while promoting inclusion, dignity, and increasing independence.
