    Overview

    The EEG Technologist performs standard and specialized Electroencephalograph (EEG) recordings in all inpatient and outpatient care areas of the medical center and long-term video monitoring for epilepsy.  If not already trained to perform evoked potential testing in the EEG Laboratory, the successful candidate will receive the required additional training.

    This is a full-time, 36-hour-per-week night shift position working 3 12-hour shifts, Monday through Wednesday from 7:00 pm - 7:30 am.  The night shift receives a 20% shift differential.

    Medical Insurance: Two medical plans available through Anthem BC/BS: Employees also receive a base employer contribution of 4% of biweekly pay plus a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) that is matched with a Health Savings Account and a PPO Plan that features higher premiums balanced by copays and lower deductibles.

    Retirement: Employee contributions are vested immediately. Biweekly matching contribution of 50% on up to 4% of pay saved—for a maximum match of 2% of pay.

    Paid Time Off: Paid time off is accrued per pay period based on hours worked. This includes six paid holidays.

    Shift Differential:10% evening, 20% night, and 15% weekend shift differentials when applicable.

    Tuition Reimbursement: Up to $3,000 per year.

    Responsibilities

  1. Secures appropriate patient information, explains test procedures to patients and families while providing patient support and comfort. Performs routine EEGs. Attaches electrodes in standard 10-20 and 10-10 positions. Continually evaluates the quality and accuracy of recordings and documents activities.
  2. Follows calibration procedures for all recordings.
  3. Performs quality routine EEGs using proper lead placement for the best possible test outcome.
  4. Recognizes, monitors, and/or eliminates electrode artifacts.
  5. Enhances EEG abnormalities by implementing alternative nonstandard montages and machine settings.
  6. Performs routine activation procedures such as hyperventilation and photic stimulation.
  7. Recognizes normal patterns, normal variants, and abnormal patterns.
  8. Has knowledge of how various medical and pharmacological conditions affect the EEG.
  9. Understands clinical correlation of abnormal EEG patterns and how they pertain to various disease states. Communicates questions or questionable findings appropriately to the appropriate clinical staff.
  10. Performs specialized EEG procedures once trained, adapting procedures to particular clinical circumstances.
  11. Performs long-term inpatient video monitoring.
  12. Trains to perform visual, brainstem, and somatosensory evoked potentials.
  13. Observes sanitation protocols and techniques pertaining to the cleaning of electrodes, work areas, and equipment. Properly cleans and adjusts EEG instrumentation.
  14. Inspects and ensures proper maintenance of EEG and computer-averaging machinery.
  15. Performs off-hour call as assigned.
  16. Assists with any resident or fellow training appropriate for an EEG tech.
  17. Attends EEG review sessions and in-service training as required.
  18. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  19. Qualifications

    • Enrollment in or completion of an Associate’s Degree program OR completion of a CoA-NDT-accredited certification program required
    • College-level courses in anatomy and physiology, basic electronics, and medical terminology preferred.
    • Knowledge of video EEG monitoring is desirable.
    • Maturity and ability to establish good rapport with patients, public, and staff.
    • Capacity to deal with severely ill patients.
    • Attend specific courses and seminars on electroneurodiagnostic testing, with special emphasis on EEG for continued education.
    • Take and pass the ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalography & Evoked Potential Technologists) EEG certification exam once eligible.

    Required Licensure/Certifications

    • BLS Certification
    • End of year one in role, the EEG Technologist is to have an outlined plan for taking the ABRET EEG certification Exam.
    • Currently Registered with the New Hampshire Board of Registration for Medical Technicians
