    Job description

    Job Overview

As a Telemetry Monitor Technician, you’ll monitor cardiac rhythms from the Central Monitoring Unit, interpret changes, and communicate updates to nursing staff in real time. You’ll manage documentation, handoffs, and workflows that support patient safety across multiple campuses. This role requires strong focus, accuracy, and comfort working with technology in a fast‑paced environment.

    What You’ll Gain

Working as a Monitor Tech gives you experience with cardiac rhythms, dysrhythmia interpretation, and system‑wide communication — a strong foundation for future growth in telemetry, cardiology, or acute care. You’ll build skills in rhythm recognition, documentation, teamwork, and escalation processes. With structured orientation, Basic Dysrhythmia training, and support from experienced preceptors, you’ll gain confidence quickly and develop a solid understanding of cardiac monitoring.

    What You’ll Do

    • Observe and interpret patient rhythms and report changes to the RN
    • Interpret and document rhythm strips for each shift
    • Send monitor strips and ectopy into Epic and maintain accurate electronic records
    • Escalate concerns to Charge Nurse, ADON, Team Leader, or Unit Manager as needed

    About the Central Monitoring Unit

The Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) is located at Midtown and provides continuous cardiac rhythm surveillance for Midtown, Gateway, The Women’s Hospital, Henderson, and three Illinois locations, operating 12 dedicated monitoring stations. The team delivers real‑time rhythm interpretation and immediate communication to bedside staff across the system.

    Requirements

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) within six months of hire
    • High school diploma or GED preferred
    • Successful completion of Epic training as required
    • Successful completion of Basic Dysrhythmia training and testing
