About the team /role overview
The Senior Engineer – Maintenance Programs is responsible for the continuous improvement and optimization of Delta's Approved Maintenance Program through data-driven analysis of maintenance task effectiveness, fleet reliability, operational performance, and maintenance burden. This role partners closely with Fleet Engineering, Reliability, Line Maintenance, Base Maintenance, Planning, Supply Chain, and OEM partners to identify opportunities to improve maintenance program efficiency while maintaining full regulatory compliance and operational safety.
The engineer evaluates maintenance task performance using operational and maintenance data, develops recommendations for escalation or de-escalation of maintenance requirements, and supports implementation of program changes that improve fleet availability, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
This position serves as a key technical resource for maintenance program optimization initiatives across Delta's fleet and supports the development of analytical tools, dashboards, and performance metrics that drive strategic maintenance decisions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintenance Program Optimization
- Analyze maintenance task effectiveness and identify opportunities to optimize task content, intervals, frequencies, and scheduling requirements.
- Investigate trends across ATA chapters and aircraft fleets to identify opportunities for program improvements.
- Evaluate maintenance program performance using reliability, operational interruption, deferred maintenance, and unscheduled maintenance data.
- Support development and implementation of maintenance program changes through Delta's regulatory approval and Reliability Control Board processes.
- Perform substantiation analyses for task escalations, de-escalations, additions, or removals based on fleet performance and statistical evidence.
- Develop recommendations that improve aircraft availability while reducing unnecessary maintenance workload.
- Ensure optimization initiatives maintain compliance with FAA regulations, OEM requirements, and Delta Technical Operations policies.
- Review, evaluate, and disposition Airworthiness Limitations (ALS), Airworthiness Limitation Instructions (ALI), and Airworthiness Limitations (AWL) revisions; assess operational and maintenance program impacts, develop compliance strategies, and coordinate implementation of required maintenance program changes across affected fleets.
2. Data Analytics & Reporting
- Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and analytical tools supporting fleet optimization decisions.
- Utilize maintenance, reliability, operational, and component performance data to measure program effectiveness.
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for maintenance program performance and optimization initiatives.
- Support predictive and proactive maintenance strategies through data analysis and fleet health monitoring.
- Present analytical findings and recommendations to Maintenance Programs leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Fleet Engineering, Reliability Programs, Planning, Production Control, Supply Chain, Aircraft Inspection, and Maintenance organizations.
- Support implementation of engineering and maintenance program changes through effective coordination across departments.
- Collaborate with OEMs and industry working groups to evaluate best practices and benchmark maintenance program performance.
- Engage with maintenance personnel and operational stakeholders to ensure program changes are practical and effective.
4. Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to reduce maintenance burden while improving safety, operational reliability, and cost efficiency.
- Support development of internal analytical methodologies and optimization tools.
- Drive innovation in maintenance program management through advanced analytics and data visualization.
- Promote safety-conscious behaviors and operational excellence in all activities.
