    2026 Department of Environmental Management (DEM) SEASONAL PROGRAM
    The State annually employs qualified responsible individuals in a variety of positions with the State's Parks, Beaches, Research Programs, and Administrative Offices during a specific limited period.  Applicants will be considered for open seasonal positions based on their qualifications, availability, and willingness to travel to the assigned location(s).
    Many of the classifications have a three-step pay-grade.  An employee in any of these classifications is paid at the first step during his or her first season.  An employee returning to the same three-step classification for a second season is paid at the second step during that season.  An employee to the same three-step classification for a third or subsequent session is paid at the third step during that season.

    The State is accepting online applications for available Seasonal Natural Resources Operations Assistant positions.

    Illustrative Examples of Work Performed

    Seasonal Natural Resources Operations Assistant participates in the day-to-day operations of a State Park, Beach, Campground, Golf Course, or other State Public Lands Facility. They maintain the grounds, paths, walkways, and bikeways using a variety of hand tools or outdoor power equipment such as string trimmers, push mowers, hedge trimmers, and various other small engine equipment. An employee in this classification also maintains the cleanliness and hygiene of restrooms at various State Park facilities. An Operations Assistant also is responsible for performing maintenance duties as assigned such as, litter pickup, trail cleanup, and other building and grounds light maintenance tasks. On occasion, an employee in this class will be responsible to engage with the public to provide necessary information or assistance to park visitors. Related duties will be assigned to ensure the safe operation of RIDEM facilities. Specific employees’ duties will be at the discretion of their full-time supervisor and the experience the employee has in the related fields.

    Required Qualifications for Appointment

    State Parks experience high visitation during peak periods such as weekends and holidays, therefore weekend and holiday shifts are required.
    Employees must be 16 years of age to apply for this position.
