Analyst, Corporate Banking

As a capital markets corporate banking analyst, you help carry out financing for large public and private companies, primarily based in Quebec, whose complex credit needs are met through syndicated loans. You support portfolio managers and client relationship managers in carrying out transactions, managing portfolios and developing strategic business relationships. You collaborate on major files that require a comprehensive understanding of the client’s needs, credit risks, financial structure and capital markets. Among other things, your role involves contributing to credit analysis, preparing financing applications, financial modelling, transaction documentation and following up with borrowers. You also support the origination process and prepare materials for clients and internal approval bodies. You work with a diverse clientele from multiple business sectors as well as internal and external partners to propose integrated, tailored solutions. You help formulate analyses and recommendations on files with high operational and conceptual complexity, considering profitability, capital allocation, Desjardins’s position in banking syndicates and the potential for relationship development. Your diligence, judgment, organizational skills and ability to deliver comprehensive analyses within frequently tight deadlines are essential. More specifically, you will be required to:

• Support financing portfolio management for large public and private companies, primarily in the form of syndicated loans.
• Prepare analyses and documentation for internal governing bodies regarding new financing applications, annual reviews and amendments for existing or prospective clients.
• Analyze and monitor changes in financial performance, risk ratings, contractual commitments and the principal risks of borrowers.
• Participate in the due diligence process and risk assessment for new and existing transactions, particularly by reviewing industry analyses, financial statements, financial models, credit agreements and transaction documentation.
• Contribute to preparing transaction memos, client presentations, letters of intent and profitability analyses supporting origination, structuring and business development.
• Collaborate with internal partners, including the operations, risk management, structuring and syndication, corporate financing, derivatives, banking and capital markets teams, as well as with external partners such as legal and financial advisors.

What you bring to the table

• Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related field
• 0 to 5 years of relevant experience
• Master’s degree or graduate diploma
• Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
• Relevant experience in corporate banking, credit analysis, financial advisory services, accounting or a capital markets environment
• Have or be in the process of obtaining a professional designation (CFA, CPA, CAIA)
• Knowledge of French is required
• Intermediate knowledge of English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients
• Advanced knowledge of credit and capital markets analysis
• Knowledge of financial structuring and financial modelling
• Knowledge of corporate banking mechanisms, bank syndication, credit documentation and the main capital markets products
