Section Manager, Contested Matters

As Section Manager, Contested Matters, you’re responsible for managing activities related to the handling of contested and complex claims nationwide. You lead a team of professionals and administrative support staff and ensure that they meet their performance targets, develop their skills and provide high-quality service. Working closely with the life and health insurance claims teams, you support strategic decision-making on highly complex claims and help improve practices to ensure operational excellence and member and client satisfaction. More specifically, you will be required to:

• Manage, motivate and develop a team of professionals and administrative support staff responsible for handling contested and complex claims nationwide
• Take responsibility for team performance, results and skills development
• Help your immediate supervisor organize work and plan operational activities for the unit
• Coach and guide team members in making strategic decisions on highly complex claims and guide them in determining which priorities to focus on
• Work closely with the life and health insurance claims teams to ensure claims are managed efficiently and consistently
• Develop, implement and monitor the unit’s action plan to ensure it’s in line with the organization’s strategic directions
• Define and enhance the unit’s services to maximize business results and client satisfaction
• Identify opportunities for improvement and implement innovative solutions that promote operational efficiency and continuous improvement
• Implement management practices that support engagement, talent development, diversity, employee attraction and retention, and change management
• Ensure sound management of individual and team performance, as well as effective reporting

What you bring to the table 

• Bachelor's degree in a related field
• A minimum of six years of relevant experience, including two years in a management role
• Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
• Experience in managing teams
• Strong communication skills in both French and English, both oral and written due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with english-speaking parteners, members and/or clients.
• Knowledge of the legal field and the life and health insurance sector
