Description:
Administers day-to-day activities including, but not limited to those duties directly involving PACS and RIS administration and training for physicians and staff of DRI (Diagnostic Radiology & Imaging)
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage day to day PACS / RIS issues and answer clinical system helpdesk calls.
• Manage current PACS / RIS, clinical 3rd party system, and modality vendors.
• Advise administration and supervising physician on appropriate disaster recovery and operating policies and procedures for PACS / RIS operation.
• Analyze complex problems that may arise in organizational reporting within the departments of radiology/PACS.
• Recommend solutions to the COO and other supervisory personnel.
• Maintain and update various departmental manual/plans as appropriate.
• Consult on purchasing decisions for equipment, regarding DICOM compatibility.
• Advise the COO on clinical systems technological advancements to ensure that DRI remains current and up to date.
• Create and manage the PACS / RIS training courses and schedules as required for radiologists, referring physicians and their office personnel, technologists, front desk receptionists, medical records personnel, and others as necessary.
• Participate in professional organization events e.g., HIMMS, SIIM and RSNA as required.
• Maintain and advance expertise in PACS systems by attending courses that expand current knowledge levels and understanding of the latest field technologies; share key learnings with COO and other staff as appropriate.
• Assist the marketing department with their work on the PACS / RIS web product, provide training to the marketing department and referring physicians to implement PACS within the referring physician community.
• Analyze in monitoring short- and long-term archive space, work with the IT Team and PACS vendor for archive solutions.
• Integrate new modalities, workstations, facilities, and software into the overall PACS environment.
• Maintain DRI HL7 interfaces, mapping, monitoring, and troubleshooting as needed.
• After hours work is frequently necessary to address system maintenance to avoid interrupting business operations.
After hours response will be necessary to address system failures as required.
• Attend and participate in staff meetings and on-the-job training programs as required.
• Maintain confidentiality of all patient health information (HIPAA) and PCI data.
• Perform other related duties within the job classification or organization as necessary or as assigned by Practice
Administrator or Director of Clinical Applications & Product
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Associate degree (two-year college or technical school) or work equivalent Field of Study: JRCERT approved Radiology program
Experience:
• 5+ years of radiology operations, imaging informatics, PACS administration, or healthcare IT experience.
• Experience administering or supporting:
• PACS systems and RIS platforms (Abbadox preferred) o Voice recognition/reporting systems o Electronic Medical Record (EMR/EHR) integrations
• Experience troubleshooting:
o Modality connectivity issues o Image routing failures
• Experience integrating:
o MRI, CT, X-ray, Ultrasound, Mammography, and Nuclear Medicine modalities into PACS environments.
o New locations, workstations, or imaging equipment.
• Experience with medical practice management software and hardware applications.
• Ten years in the field of radiology and/or Information Systems/IT department, and an administrative position.
• HL7 Experience o The candidate should understand:
o HL7 interface errors o Interface mapping and configuration o ADT (Admission, Discharge, Transfer) messages o Orders and results interfaces o Troubleshooting failed messages o Working with EMR vendors and interface engines
• DICOM Experience o Configure DICOM nodes and Application Entity (AE) titles o Perform modality integrations o Troubleshoot image transmission failures o DICOM communication issues o Configure routing rules and archives o Work with vendors on DICOM connectivity issues
• Strong computer skills and an understanding of inter/intradepartmental workflow.
• Ability to communicate well with physicians, management, technical staff, and patients.
• Ability to present technical information in a sufficient yet thorough manner.
• Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The flow of work and character of duties involve remaining in a seated stationary position and performing keyboard operations constantly; communicating with internal and external stakeholders constantly; and moving/traversing about the office or remaining in an upright stationary position on an occasional basis. Additionally, the person in this role may seldom climb stairs or position oneself as necessary to access resources pertinent to one’s desk/computer/files. Visual attention is necessary because frequent near acuity for computer usage is required and far acuity is occasionally needed to assist with following PowerPoint presentations. Intermittently, the ability to distinguish color is warranted. The person in this role needs to be able to detect smells for safety-related purposes on occasion. The position also requires an individual to be able to transport a laptop computer, equipment and files weighing approximately 10-15 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Moderate noise associated with a typical work environment (computers, printers, and light traffic) is characteristic for this job.
