The Opportunity
The Field Testing Officer is responsible for conducting field testing services that support the effective design, construction, maintenance, and operation of the State’s transport assets.
The role involves performing field-based testing of road surfaces and analysing and interpretating the collected data within an office environment.

This role supports the assessment of major road infrastructure across the State to ensure quality and safety is maintained. The data and insights generated through this role contribute to the Department’s understanding of network performance and provide critical input into evidence-based decision-making and forward planning for maintenance and asset management.
As testing activities often occur on high-traffic routes, a degree of flexibility in working hours is required, including undertaking work outside standard business hours to ensure safe and efficient access to the network.
The Field Testing Officer must comply with the Department’s legislative Work, Health and Safety policies and procedures.
About You
The ideal candidate will have experience providing technical support and conducting field testing in a complex organisation, including data analysis, and diagnosing equipment issues.

You will have the technical acumen to learn how to calibrate and maintain automated testing equipment and be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and testing software.
You’ll be comfortable working independently, using your technical skills to deliver quality accurate results, manage risks, and prepare clear concise reports. A strong attention to detail is essential to maintain reliable records, data, and quality management systems.
You’ll also have good communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to work effectively within a small team and collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications/Licences
The successful candidate will be appointed at the classification level commensurate with their qualifications, skills and experience.
For appointment at the TGO3 classification level, a relevant Diploma or Advanced Diploma or recognised qualification in construction/engineering technology or survey technology is essential.

A current driver’s licence is essential.
Medium Rigid driver’s licence (MR) is Desirable.
Work Zone Traffic Management (RIIWHS205D & RIIWHS302D) is Desirable.
Work Health and Safety Construction Induction (White Card) is Desirable.
Special Conditions
A National Police Check (NPC) is required prior to employment in the Department for Infrastructure and Transport which must be renewed every three years.
Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.
Tenure of Vacancy
Temporary appointment up to 12 months.
Remuneration
OPS5 - $88,149 to $94,236 pa + superannuation.
TGO3 - $90,371 to $95,410 pa + superannuation
