Senior Vehicle Standards Officer

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport plays a vital role connecting people and places in South Australia by managing roads, marine and public transport networks across the State, and builds and maintains the State-owned infrastructure that enables the delivery of essential and important government services to our community.

The Opportunity
The Senior Vehicle Standards Officer is accountable to the Coordinator, Vehicle Standards for assessing applications to obtain exemption for the complex or unprecedented modifications of vehicles and undertaking review of modification evidence to confirm that work done has been completed in accordance with Department guidelines.

This will include interpretation, analysis and provision of advice on the requirements for exemptions under the Road Traffic Act and relevant information from legislation including Vehicle Standards, Australian Design Rules, Bulletins and Section policies and guidelines.

The role provides a key interface with the public, conducts inspections of vehicles, applies judgement and provides advice on vehicle standards requirements and vehicle identity, including investigating disclosed breaches of vehicle standards legislation and initiating appropriate recommendations.

 Educational Qualifications/ Knowledge

• An appropriate Automotive or vehicle related qualification, or significant hands-on experience is essential.
• Practical knowledge of vehicle construction, systems and emerging technologies is essential
• Demonstrated vehicle compliance knowledge, or expertise in building or modifying vehicles is essential
• Demonstrated ability to interpret vehicle standards and legislation is highly desirable
• Demonstrated experience of the Microsoft Office suite of products and familiarity with Adobe functionality is highly desirable
• Application of Government policy and procedures, including privacy and confidentiality provisions is desirable.
• Demonstrated knowledge / experience of working with databases such as TRUMPS is desirable
• Working knowledge of effective file management in SharePoint, KNet filing controls, and undertaking administrative processes and practices is highly desirable.

Special Conditions
Prior to employment with the Department the successful candidate will be required to provide:

• A National Police Check (NPC) is required prior to employment with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport which must be renewed every three years.
• A Working with Children Check (WWCC) is required prior to employment with the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, which must be renewed every five years before expiry.
• Some out of hours and weekend work, along with some intra/interstate travel requiring overnight stays, may be required.
• A current driver’s licence.

Remuneration
ASO4 - $82,212 to $86,180 per annum + superannuation
