Environmental Advisor SICS

We currently have an opportunity for an Environmental Advisor.  Join our team and play a key role in ensuring RMA compliance and compliance to Environmental legislation. The role also provides technical support, coaching and mentoring of the operational teams within their geographical location, to strive towards integrating Environmental best practice into that model. Reporting to Environmental Manager, you'll help deliver high-quality outcomes that support our essential services.

Te Kōwhiringa | The Opportunity 

Downer hold a long-term Asset Management and Facilities Management contract with the Department of Corrections and the Ministry of Justice. This involves the proactive management and delivery to the national portfolio of facilities including 15 prisons, 100 courts and 157 community correctional sites.  This contract underpins the provision of availability of facilities to support core Government services.

Reporting to the Environmental Manager, you will provide technical support, coaching, and mentoring to the site-based operations teams and help ensure both RMA compliance and compliance to Environmental Legislation across our business. We are looking for someone with plenty of energy and pace to help us deliver a superior environmental compliance service to our customers.

Key tasks and responsibilities will include:

• Guide the maintenance teams to effectively and consistently implement the environmental management systems, ensuring compliance with Designation and Resource Consent conditions, site agreements and related Resource Management legislation

• Liaise with the client and other key stakeholders on compliance status

• Champion the Environmental Management Plans and Environmental Risk Registers 

• Implement a robust inspection and monitoring programme to ensure compliance with consent conditions/management plan requirements

• Conduct investigations into environmental incident root cause, developing SMART preventive actions, and sharing lessons learnt

• Review and advise on a wide scope of environmental compliance matters, including but not limited to, landscaping, stormwater management, and groundwater takes

• Provide coaching and deliver environmental training programs to upskill operational teams

Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills (experience required)

• Experience in stormwater, landscaping, and groundwater take compliance monitoring is desirable.

• Train the trainer qualification (desirable) or at least 2 years experience of

  delivering in house training to operational teams and line management is

  desirable.

• Experience in practical application and implementation of Environmental

  process and disciplines in an operational environment.

• Experience in environmental auditing and verification protocols aimed at

  attaining third party accreditations preferred.

• Understanding of and management of site RMA compliance monitoring and other NZ legislation. 

• Conversant with and ability to influence positive Environmental outcomes in planning and implementation stages of work activities with aim to create a Zero Harm culture. 

• Demonstrated success in providing Environmental initiatives achieving environmental outcomes as part of team.
