Job Summary
You are responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, safety, and efficiency of all electrical systems, instrumentation, and control equipment across the plant. The role leads a team of technicians in executing preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities while ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, safety requirements, maintenance standards, and operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate daily maintenance activities for electrical, instrumentation, and control systems, including corrective, preventive, predictive, inspection, testing, and shutdown maintenance.
- Ensure maintenance work is executed according to approved procedures, quality standards, and work instructions.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, availability, and maintainability.
- Lead troubleshooting and fault diagnosis activities for electrical and instrumentation equipment and ensure timely restoration of operations.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring failures.
- Conduct equipment inspections, identify defects, and ensure timely follow-up actions are completed.
- Manage and prioritize work orders based on operational requirements and maintenance priorities.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Planner to ensure manpower, tools, materials, permits, and spare parts are available before work execution.
- Support maintenance shutdowns, turnarounds, and emergency maintenance activities.
- Verify completed maintenance work with relevant stakeholders before work order closure.
- Ensure full compliance with electrical safety regulations, company policies, permit-to-work requirements, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and switching procedures.
- Supervise electrical isolation, switching operations, functional testing, and loop checking activities in accordance with approved procedures.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with statutory, regulatory, and audit requirements.
- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe work practices are consistently followed by the maintenance team.
- Maintain calibration, testing, and verification records for critical instruments and equipment as required.
- Lead, supervise, and coach electrical and instrumentation technicians to achieve maintenance objectives.
- Assign work responsibilities, monitor performance, and provide technical guidance to team members.
- Foster teamwork, discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement within the maintenance team.
- Identify training and competency development needs to enhance team capability and performance.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of maintenance activities, equipment history, failure analysis, and corrective actions in the maintenance management system.
- Prepare daily maintenance updates, breakdown reports, and periodic performance reports.
- Maintain proper documentation of maintenance records, inspection reports, calibration certificates, and statutory compliance records.
- Review and authorize requests for maintenance materials, spare parts, and consumables within approved authority limits.
- Support spare parts planning and inventory optimization to ensure critical items are available for maintenance activities.
- Initiate purchase requisitions for urgent material requirements when necessary and follow approval procedures.
- Support plant commissioning, modification, and improvement projects related to electrical and instrumentation systems.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Maintenance Manager or Head of Department.
Job Requirements
- Minimum Diploma or Professional Technical Certification in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related technical field from a recognized institution.
- Certified BO Chargeman issued by the Energy Commission Malaysia is an added advantage.
- Additional competency certifications related to electrical or instrumentation maintenance are advantageous.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance within manufacturing, chemical, petrochemical, refinery, or heavy industrial environments.
- At least 5 years of experience in a supervisory or team leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) electrical supply and distribution systems.
- Good understanding of electrical motors, transformers, switchgears, protection systems, variable speed drives, and power distribution equipment.
- Proficient in industrial instrumentation systems, including pressure, temperature, flow, level, and analytical instruments.
- Knowledge of instrument calibration, verification, functional testing, loop checking, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Familiarity with PLC, DCS, building automation systems, and industrial control systems.
- Understanding of maintenance strategies, including preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance practices.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills.

- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
