Group Leader

General Description

The purpose of this position is to keep daily operations flowing smoothly and act as the front-line extension of the Manager’s authority; provide support, direction and assistance to Operators during the shift.  The responsibilities of this position are in addition to the accountabilities and responsibilities of the assigned role.

Major Functions:

1. Optimize safety/minimize risk
   1. Lead by example to drive a safety first culture.
   2. Wear required PPE.
   3. Adhere to required safety precautions.
   4. Ensure all safety devices and procedures are utilized for the safe operation of all equipment within the department.

2.  Production Support

1. Plan, direct and coordinate operations in department.
   1. Coach, train and support operators using knowledge and expertise of operations within department and keen understanding of surrounding departments.
   2. Utilize Epicor system and departmental dashboards as required and intended.
   3. Use Microsoft Office to communicate, plan and manage the work.
2. Ensure optimal performance of equipment.
   1. When performance of equipment is lacking, notifies Manager.
3. Enforce adherence to standard operating procedures and standard work for department processes.
4. Drive to meet department metrics and production rates.
   1. Assists employees to meet their individual goals.
5. Recommend improvement to process changes.
   1. Finalizes changes with Manager.
6. Lead lean improvements as identified to improve costs and productivity.
7. Submit Purchase Orders for approval

3.  Managerial Support

1. Leads by example.
2. Assigns work as required by Manager.
3. Coaches operators to increase their effectiveness in role.
4. Orients and trains new employees into role requirements, working relationships, and company requirements and culture.
5. Recommends improvements to the systems and processes used to deliver outputs.
6. Requests additional staff from own manager when needed.
7. Enforces Company policies and procedures as intended.
8. Supports and provides input to the Performance Evaluation process.
9. Flexes schedule as required.

Accountability of Employees

• Use your best efforts and full capability to achieve the outputs assigned.
• When circumstances make it likely that outputs cannot be achieved, or that more could be done, inform your manager in time for adaptive action to be taken.
• Advise your manager when you have ideas you believe might be helpful.
• Seek special dispensation from your manager when you are unable to work at your best.
