    About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Signage Asset Engineer (Roads O&M) to join our team in Doha, Qatar. In this role, you will be responsible for the asset management, lifecycle performance, maintenance, rehabilitation, and compliance of highway traffic signage assets across the road network, ensuring safety, serviceability, visibility, and cost-effective operations.

The role covers regulatory, warning, directional, guide, and informational traffic signs, including ground-mounted signs, cantilever and gantry-mounted large guide signs, overhead structures, and associated support systems. The successful candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of traffic sign standards, retroreflective materials, fabrication practices, inspection methodologies, and maintenance strategies.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage highway signage assets, including regulatory, warning, guide, directional, and informational signs; ground-mounted signs; overhead cantilever and gantry-mounted signs; and associated support structures and foundations.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable standards, specifications, and contractual requirements, including MUTCD, ASTM standards, local authority requirements, and relevant international best practices for traffic signs and retroreflective materials.
    • Develop and maintain accurate asset inventories and asset registers within the Asset Management System, including sign type, dimensions, materials, support structures, age, condition, retroreflectivity performance, and maintenance history.
    • Establish condition assessment methodologies, inspection criteria, and performance indicators for traffic signs and support structures.
    • Conduct and oversee inspections of traffic signs and structures, including structural condition, visibility, legibility, retroreflectivity, chromaticity, damage assessment, corrosion, deformation, and foundation integrity.
    • Analyze inspection and condition data to assess asset performance, deterioration trends, failure risks, and lifecycle requirements.
    • Develop and implement preventative and corrective maintenance strategies for signage assets to optimize safety, performance, compliance, and whole-life cost.
    • Develop rehabilitation and replacement programs for aging or non-compliant signs and support structures based on condition, retroreflectivity performance, safety risk, asset criticality, and lifecycle cost analysis.
    • Monitor and assess retroreflective sheeting performance and compliance with minimum retroreflectivity requirements and chromaticity standards.
    • Review and evaluate sign fabrication practices, materials, installation methods, and workmanship to ensure compliance with approved standards and specifications.
    • Coordinate maintenance and rehabilitation activities for damaged, faded, corroded, misaligned, or structurally deficient signs and overhead sign structures.
    • Lead and direct inspection and maintenance teams to carry out routine, reactive, and detailed inspections and maintenance works.
    • Manage defect identification, prioritization, and corrective actions in accordance with contractual KPIs, SLAs, and road safety requirements.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including traffic operations, roadway maintenance, pavement, structures, and road safety teams to ensure integrated asset management and maintenance planning.
    • Prepare technical reports, condition assessment reports, lifecycle forecasts, compliance reports, maintenance plans, and investment strategies for stakeholders.
    • Provide technical expertise and guidance to junior engineers, inspectors, and maintenance personnel.
    • Stay updated on advancements in traffic sign materials, retroreflective technologies, maintenance methodologies, and international best practices.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
    • Minimum of 8 years of experience in highway operations and maintenance, with specific experience in traffic signage asset management and maintenance.
    • Strong knowledge of traffic sign standards and specifications, including:
      • MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices)
      • Relevant ASTM standards for retroreflective sheeting, sign materials, coatings, and testing
      • Highway signage design and maintenance practices
      • Road authority specifications and standards
    • Strong understanding of:
      • Retroreflectivity requirements and measurement
      • Chromaticity and color compliance
      • Traffic sign visibility and legibility principles
      • Sign deterioration mechanisms and lifecycle behavior
    • Experience with fabrication, installation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of:
      • Ground-mounted traffic signs
      • Overhead gantry and cantilever sign structures
      • Large directional and guide signs
      • Sign support structures and foundations
    • Familiarity with inspection techniques and condition assessment methodologies for signage assets and overhead sign structures.
    • Experience working with Asset Management Systems, inspection databases, and maintenance management systems.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret condition data and develop risk-based maintenance and replacement strategies.
    • Good understanding of structural and corrosion-related issues affecting sign support systems and overhead structures.
    • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple asset categories simultaneously.
    • Effective communication skills, including technical report writing and stakeholder presentations.
