    Job description

    JOB TITLE: Estimator

    REPORTS TO: General Manager

    DIRECT REPORTS: No

    TRAVEL: No

    FLSA: Non-Exempt

    GENERAL JOB SUMMARY

    The Estimator is responsible for compiling estimates of how much it will cost to provide a client with products and/or services.

    CORE AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

    1. Understand the project or program scope and its requirements

    1. Determine key variables for costs and other estimates

    1. Research information on upcoming jobs for bidding purposes

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    1. General knowledge of landscape construction operations

    1. Excellent numerical skills and an analytical mindset

    1. Effective listening skills to understand the scope and expectations of tasks to be performed

    1. A positive attitude when faced with challenges

    1. Work in an organized and proactive manner

    1. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam

    1. Work cooperatively and collaboratively both, independently and as part of a team (team oriented)

    1. Effective and professional communication skills; verbal and written

    1. Detail oriented, able to multi-task and flexible

    1. Valid California Driver’s License

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

    At least a High School Diploma or GED required and a minimum of 3 years’ experience estimating in the construction industry and/or a related field.

    1. Regularly required to talk and listen

    1. Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach, and use hands, arms and fingers

    1. Able to lift and/or move up to 40lbs.

    1. Routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines

    CORE AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

    1. Understand the project or program scope and its requirements

    • Conduct hand-offs

    • Update award status

    • Manage non-awarded jobs

    1. Determine key variables for costs and other estimates

    • Key variables needed for:

    • Pre-bid meetings

    • Bid bond for prime bids

    • Work in Progress (WIP) for project backlog

    • Gather first-hand information from sites, warehouses or other venues

    • Coordinate the bid calendar

    1. Research information on upcoming jobs for bidding purposes

    • Search exchange for jobs
