Position Summary:
REACH Edmonton, in partnership with enCompass, Edmonton Police Services, Multi-cultural Health Brokers, Native Counselling Services, and YOUCAN Youth Services works collaboratively to preventing/reducing youth violence and risk of gang involvement in Edmonton. Youth served by the program are between 12 and 24 years of age. While in the program youth are connected with youth workers and/or a facilitator who can support the youth in making positive changes in all aspects of their lives, particularly youth who present with risk factors associated with criminological behaviours linked with gang activity.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver ongoing services using Wraparound and client-centred, strength-based approaches to support clients in achieving long-term, sustainable change.Work with clients to develop professional relationships and behavior changes and to identify individuals’ goals
- Assess clients to determine needs
- Provide support and advocacy for clients and their supports as needed
- Facilitate meetings with clients and their supports as needed
- Assist clients with completion of various applications, documents, and forms until a support team is established
- Provide appropriate internal and external referrals
- Create and maintain a strong and professional working relationship with probation officers, social workers, correctional services workers and other professionals
- Provide transportation of clients if required on a case by case basis
- Assist with pre- and post- release support
- Promote, coordinate, implement, facilitate the Empire Fighting Chance, a non-contract boxing program, in coordination with REACH Edmonton
Qualifications / Skills:
- Post-secondary education in a related human services field; registration with a relevant professional body, where applicable.2+ years of relevant experience working with complex, high-risk populations using a client centered approach
- Experience working with offender populations using a client centered approach
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system, Harm Reduction, Child Youth and Family Enhancement Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act
- Effective risk management, advocacy in systems and group facilitation
- Demonstrated professionalism, strong leadership abilities, and the ability to contribute effectively to a collaborative team environment.Experience working with Indigenous and multicultural individuals and families, with an understanding of the unique challenges they may face, as well as experience supporting individuals with complex needs and/or significant criminal histories.Strong knowledge of addictions, mental health and local community resources
- Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license, reliable vehicle and $2 million liability insurance.
- Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check. A criminal record will not disqualify you from employment with us; we evaluate each application individually
- Experience in the following areas: client assessment, strength-based approach, interviewing skills, high risk youth and Trauma Informed Practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Social work or related degree with 5 years of experience working with offender populations and individuals experiencing addictions and/or mental health challenges.General computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Proficiency in the following areas of client’s assessments, strength-based approach, motivational interviewing skills, and trauma and violence informed practices
Conditions of Employment:
- The hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; however, some flexibility is required. The office is located in the Transition Place Building at #101, 10010-105 Street. Program delivery takes place throughout the Edmonton area, including but not limited to institutions, treatment centres, clients’ residences, and other community settings.

The salary range for this position is between $53,060.00-$60,650.40 per year.
