About the role

Equals works with a network of around 300 affiliates who introduce customers to us: accountants; brokers; consultancies and industry specialists.

This role does two things. You manage and grow a portfolio of those affiliates, with a target for what they refer. And you are the front door to the programme: every new affiliate who approaches us, and every customer lead they send in, comes through you. You qualify it, you get it moving, and you keep the affiliate informed until there is an answer.

This is an experienced role, and a broad one. You will see the whole cycle: an affiliate signing up; agreeing terms; sending their first referral; and that referral becoming a customer. You will be the one holding it together.

Not everything that comes through the door is straightforward. Plenty of our affiliates, and the clients they introduce, work in complex or non-traditional sectors, or trade across jurisdictions we see less often. You will need to know those markets well enough to tell a straightforward case from one that needs more thought, and to set expectations with the affiliate before it goes any further.

You will not own the sales cycle. Once a referred customer is qualified, a named salesperson takes it forward. You own the affiliate relationship, and you own the fact that nothing gets dropped.

There is room to grow in this. As the book of affiliates builds, so will the role, the responsibility and the seniority that go with it, so this is a real opportunity for somebody who wants to build a career here rather than just take the next job.

Responsibilities 

• Manage and grow a portfolio of affiliates, delivering a monthly and annual target for referred revenue.
• Own the intake of new affiliates: qualify the enquiry; run it through due diligence with Compliance; agree terms on the standard rate card; get the agreement signed; and onboard them onto the programme.
• Own the intake of referred customer leads from an existing affiliate: qualify; check appetite internally; and keep the affiliate updated through to a decision.
• Get new affiliates productive, walking them through what we do, what a good referral looks like, and how they get paid.
• Keep affiliate and referral data accurate in HubSpot so the pipeline, and the commission that follows from it, can be trusted.
• Run regular contact with your portfolio, at a cadence that fits how much they refer, and re-engage affiliates who have gone quiet.
• Handle commission queries as first line, working out what has been paid and why, and escalating what needs fixing to Finance and Data.
• Support agreement renewals across the portfolio: what is signed; what is due for renewal; and when.
• Report on your book monthly: referrals in; conversion; revenue; and what you are doing about the gaps.
• Help build the way this part of the business works. You will see the friction in a process before anybody else does, and you will be expected to say so and help put it right.

Your Profile

Skills & Experience

• Three to five years in partner management, affiliate management, inside sales, business development or account management; ideally in payments, FX, fintech or financial services, but strong candidates from elsewhere are welcome.
• Has worked with clients in complex or non-traditional sectors, and across a range of jurisdictions: knows how these businesses operate, and spots the case that needs more thought than a standard one.
• Confident on the phone and in front of a partner, and able to explain a commercial product clearly.
• Comfortable with numbers, can read a commission statement or a referral report and see what it is telling them.
• Familiar with, or fast to learn, HubSpot, Notion and Slack.

Attitude & Behaviours

• Genuinely organised, with the discipline to keep a CRM accurate and a follow-up list short.
• Comfortable picking up the phone to an affiliate who has gone quiet, and equally comfortable chasing a colleague internally when a referral needs moving along.
• Handles a queue of competing requests without losing any of them.
• Works well with people they do not manage: sales; compliance; finance; data and product all sit in this role’s path.
• Curious about payments and cards, and quick to pick up how the products work.
• Chases the thing they said they would chase, and spots where a process could work better.
