We’re looking for a Product Engineer passionate about software development, APIs, and web technologies. In this role, you’ll design, test, and document REST API features in collaboration with cross-functional engineering and product teams. You’ll help ensure ArcGIS Enterprise REST APIs are reliable, secure, scalable, and designed to solve real customer problems. This role blends strong technical skills with user advocacy, clear documentation, and cross-team communication to deliver REST API features that power critical GIS workflows for organizations worldwide.

    Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with Software Development Engineers, Product Engineers, and Product Managers to design, enhance, and validate REST APIs for geospatial workflows in ArcGIS Enterprise across multiple deployment environments (Windows, Linux, Kubernetes)
    • Develop and execute functional, integration, and automation tests for new and existing API capabilities
    • Advocate for users and developers within the software development team, ensuring APIs are intuitive, consistent, and built to support customer workflows
    • Participate in project planning, contributing to scope definition, timelines, and delivery milestones
    • Coordinate and communicate REST API features, updates, and changes with internal teams across engineering, documentation, support, and product management
    • Certify REST API features prior to product release, ensuring quality and readiness
    • Write and maintain API reference documentation, samples, and developer-facing guidance
    • Present REST API features, design decisions, and release readiness at internal milestone and review meetings
    • Showcase API capabilities and best practices by presenting at Esri conferences

    Requirements

    • 2+ years of experience designing, testing, and validating RESTful APIs
    • Solid understanding of REST, web services, and HTTP concepts (methods, headers, status codes, authentication, security)
    • Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages (such as Python, JavaScript, Java)
    • Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, or other similar geospatial technology
    • Ability to write clear, accurate, and developer-friendly technical documentation
    • Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating across teams
    • Attention to detail, ownership mindset, and commitment to product quality
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, GIS, or related field

    Recommended Qualifications

    • Experience with cloud computing platforms and services, such as Amazon S3, SQS, EC2, and Azure
    • Experience with API test automation frameworks or performance testing
    • Experience presenting technical topics to internal or external audiences
