    Position Overview:

    We are seeking an experienced and strategic  Business Unit Manager for Oligonucleotide Manufacturing to oversee the day-to-day operations of our oligonucleotide synthesis facility in Louisville, KY. This position reports to the vice president of Eurofins Genomics and will lead a team of 40–50 employees in a dynamic, fast-paced production environment. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in manufacturing operations, process optimization, and automation, along with a solid background in organic chemistry.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead and oversee daily oligonucleotide manufacturing operations to ensure optimal performance, quality, and efficiency.
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean and Six Sigma projects, to enhance productivity and reduce operational waste.
    • Plan, design, and implement automation and equipment upgrades to streamline production and increase throughput.
    • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Maintenance, IT, and R&D teams to support new product introduction and process enhancements.
    • Develop and implement robust process controls, performance metrics, and documentation systems to ensure product quality and regulatory compliance.
    • Analyze equipment performance and manufacturing data to identify areas for improvement and corrective action.
    • Build and lead a high-performing team, ensuring appropriate staffing, training, development, and performance management.
    • Define clear departmental goals and KPIs aligned with business objectives; monitor progress and make adjustments as needed.
    • Ensure full compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, including GMP standards where necessary.
    • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering discipline is required; MS or PhD in Organic Chemistry or a related field is strongly preferred.
    • Minimum 8–10 years of direct experience in manufacturing operations leading a plant manufacturing floor will be ideal
    • Strong background in oligonucleotide synthesis will be a plus
    • Demonstrated success in driving continuous improvement initiatives and scaling manufacturing operations.
    • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a hands-on leadership style.
    • Experience with GMP environments and lean/six sigma methodologies is a plus.
    • Employment Type: Full-Time, Exempt
    • Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM with additional hours as needed
    • Salary: Commensurate with experience (DOE)
    • Team Size: 40–50 direct and indirect reports

A successful candidate will have a proven track record and is comfortable reaching out to and meeting with high level decision makers including C-Suite.  This position will manage the strategic sales process including identifying client needs, defining and presenting how PSS can address them, as well as managing the implementation process for new programs.
