Primary Purpose
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITIONTo exchange existing meters with an AMI meter. Install, remove, exchange, inspect and test single and three phase self-contained/transformer rated meters; maintain stock and issue metering equipment parts and supplies; contact customers and make arrangements for metering work. Perform related work as assigned. Per the Field Billing agreement amendment on July 22, 2024, no employee shall be allowed to promote to SET without having at least 18 months of metering experience. The 18 months of experience in metering work amended applies to all clerical and physical employees. Metering experience shall be defined as time worked in the ET position and shall not include time spent in the Meter Reader position
Primary Duties
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES- To install, remove and exchange three phase meters, relays, and current transformers and transformer rated metering equipment, and voltmeters; contacting customers and making arrangements for metering work, checking correctness of wiring, connections, and area served, including situations such as foreign load and switched meters; and verifying that meters arc operating and arc proper for the type of service being rendered.
- To make of meters and metering equipment, inspecting, cleaning, and repairing or replacing parts found worn or defective, making adjustments until tests show meters to tests be operating within prescribed limits of accuracy, and to check meter constants.
- To inspect, time-check, and repair demand devices and associated contact devices and relays.
- To check for and correct improper wiring conditions; to repair, replace, and install meter fitting interiors; and to prepare reports describing conditions found and work performed.
- As assigned, to determine wiring work requirements and estimate costs in connection with meter work.
- As assigned, to assist servicemen of higher classification; and to assign work to and instruct and train Technicians of lower classification assigned to assist.
- To make power-factor tests on customers' utilization equipment; and to make customer complaint tests on self-contained and transformer rated meters.
- To disconnect meters for non-payment and reconnect when situation is rectified.
- To receive and maintain a supply of meters, metering equipment, repair parts, supplies, and determine sizes and types required and in addition to make required entries to computer systems.
- To interface with customers in connection with their inquiries and complaints pertaining to high bills.
- To investigate various work orders and conduct tests to ensure that the proper rate and registration are billed.
- To check and investigate three phase unmetered current.
- To investigate all reported closed loop conditions (Chicago only).
