    Senior Carpenter role

    The Senior Carpenter is the most experienced in the carpentry crew, responsible for advanced carpentry and maintenance work in support of mining and exploration operations at FDR Suriname Holdings’ remote sites in Suriname while providing technical leadership to deviation management and complex incident resolution and mentors [junior] carpenters. The role is responsible for ensuring camp infrastructure, buildings, and carpentry projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to operational and quality standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead and perform construction, installation, repair, and maintenance of camp buildings, offices, accommodations, furniture, roofing, flooring, frameworks, scaffolding, and related structures. Interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications to ensure accurate execution of work.
    • Supervise and mentor junior carpenters and assistants. Assign daily tasks, provide on-the-job training, and ensure work quality and compliance with site procedures.
    • Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and carpentry equipment safely and effectively. Prepare and organize materials and equipment for projects.
    • Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance on camp facilities and infrastructure. Identify repair requirements and recommend corrective actions.
    • Ensure compliance with HSE standards, participate in toolbox meetings, complete work reports and maintenance logs, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • Trade certification or vocational training in Carpentry, Construction, or a related technical discipline required.
    • Minimum 5–7 years of carpentry experience, preferably within mining, industrial, construction, or remote-site environments, including supervisory responsibilities.
    • Advanced knowledge of carpentry methods, construction materials, blueprint interpretation, structural repairs, hand and power tools, and camp infrastructure maintenance.
    • Valid driver’s license preferred. First aid certification is an advantage.
    • Clear written and verbal communication in Dutch, English, or Sranan Tongo. Ability to write technical reports, maintenance logs, and compliance documentation. Communicates technical findings and work status to management; coordinates effectively with other trades, supervisor and manager, and external service providers.

    Working Conditions

    • Camp-based in remote exploration and mining locations in Suriname with rotational field schedules, typically 4–6 weeks in the field.
    • Remote mine site environment with fly‑in/fly‑out roster. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
    • Physical demands include standing, climbing, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds; exposure to noise, dust, fumes and heights is common.
    • Workers must use personal protective equipment and comply with strict safety procedures. Shifts may be long and include weekends or holidays to meet operational needs.
