Job Details
Assist MST-CAN Therapists in gathering information about resources for client through a proactive stance of working to anticipate the need of clients and families
Engage primary caregivers and other key participants in active change-oriented treatment by identifying and overcoming barriers to engagement
Provides updates to assigned therapist on critical and emerging problems and developing within families throughout treatment
Maintain clear and concise documentation of treatment efforts that promote peer and supervisory review and feedback, and that demonstrate compliance with the nine MST Principles and the MST Analytic Process
Perform safety checks in collaboration with the MST-CAN Supervisor or MST-CAN Therapist, respond to any emergencies discovered during safety check or other interactions and implement crisis plans formulated by the therapist assigned to the case or supervisor of the team.
Support the collection of urine drug screens and/or breathalysers for parents or youth who are abusing substances
Participate in all MST-CAN training, supervision, consultation, and development activities
Build a relationship with community stakeholders (i.e., child protection services, legal advisers, judges, schools, etc.) to ensure cooperation among service providers
Assist clients in practical needs such as housing, budgeting, job attainment, and prosocial recreational activities
Assist the clinical team and parents with children’s school attendance and performance to ensure success
Develop and update a resource file for the team that includes activities and services available in the community that support clinical interventions
Assist in CAN-TAM-R collection by connecting families with the interviewer
Be available to MST-CAN Therapists to engage in activities to support them in their work with families
Support families in doing homework for Prolonged Exposure and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and other interventions for which homework is critical to clinical progress (e.g., relaxation exercises, feelings identification)
The Person
Educated to HNC level or equivalent experience in a related subject area.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to travel to client’s homes and possibly transport multiple clients at once.
Must live within a 60-minute travel time from the designated service area.
Has worked with families in community-based, in-home settings
Has worked with child protection and court systems
Demonstrated ability to collaborate on clinical work as a team member
Has supported the management of family safety risks or crisis
Has provided behavioural change interventions to children in the home or school setting
Has previous professional experience, engaging with the family natural ecology member and implementing interventions as developed by the team
Has the ability to collaborate on clinical work as a team member
Has supported the management of family safety risks or crises (e.g., threats of harm to self and others)
Has the ability to provide behavioural interventions targeting behavioural change in children at home and school and adults
