Market Pricing is a specialist team within Defaqto, focused on price tracking across the general insurance market. Our data and insights are trusted by 80% of the UK's top general insurance providers to inform their pricing decisions, and we've built deep expertise in understanding how and why pricing trends shift across the market.
Role Overview:
As a Market Insights Consultant, you'll turn Defaqto's insurance pricing data into clear, actionable insight for our clients. You'll analyse market trends, identify what is driving changes in pricing and competition, and communicate your findings with confidence.
You'll own the monthly insights output, work closely with the Product Manager to shape and improve our products, and play an active role in developing new ways of turning our data into value for clients. You'll also line manage a Market Analyst, supporting their development and helping them build their analytical and industry knowledge.
Own the monthly insights output
- Query and interrogate large volumes of insurance pricing data to identify meaningful trends and patterns
- Work with complex, messy or incomplete data, cleaning and structuring it to produce reliable analysis
- Analyse market pricing to understand trends, movements and competitive dynamics
- Own the monthly insights output, from analysis through to final delivery
Work closely with clients
- Deliver monthly client calls, presenting pricing insights clearly and confidently
- Support client acquisition through product demonstrations, meetings and other client-facing activity
- Build strong relationships with clients and understand how they use our data to support their businesses
- Contribute insight and analysis to media materials covering insurance pricing and market trends
Support product development
- Work closely with the Product Manager to support product development and deliver meaningful outcomes
Support effective collaboration
- Line manage and support the development of a Market Analyst, helping them grow their analytical and industry expertise
Essential requirements:
Experience in insurance, financial services or a related analytical field
Working knowledge of SQL and Excel
Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret trends and patterns in data and turn them into meaningful insight
Experience working with large or complex datasets, including cleaning, validating and structuring messy data
The ability to communicate data-driven findings clearly to non-technical audiences
Confidence presenting analysis and insights to clients
Experience contributing to, or taking ownership of, product development or improvement
Desirable requirements:
Experience within the insurance or wider financial services industry
Knowledge of VBA
Previous client-facing experience
Experience managing, mentoring or developing junior colleagues
Your approach to work:
You'll bring strong analytical skills and curiosity to your work, with the confidence to get into large datasets, untangle complex information and identify what really matters.
Just as importantly, you'll be confident taking your findings beyond the data. Whether you're presenting to a client, contributing to a media story or working with the Product Manager, you'll be able to explain complex analysis clearly, challenge assumptions and communicate insight with authority.
Location: This is a hybrid role, with two days per week in our Farringdon office.
