Placement Engineer
Kick-start your engineering career with Flynn through a college placement that gives you hands-on experience on live construction projects.
You will work alongside experienced site teams, apply your college learning in a live construction environment, and build practical knowledge of setting out, quality, safety, site coordination and project delivery.

What you will do
During your placement, you will be supported to learn and assist with the following:
- Support setting out activities and ensure site information is clearly understood before work begins.
- Help communicate information from drawings, specifications and site instructions to site teams and subcontractors.
- Assist with testing materials and highlighting any discrepancies in quantities or specifications.
- Support programme targets, daily site records and progress updates as directed by site management.
- Follow site safety requirements and build positive working relationships with colleagues, subcontractors and project teams.
- Monitor setting out instruments and testing equipment as directed.
- Develop commercial awareness by working accurately, managing your time well and helping to avoid waste or rework.
- Take an active interest in your learning, ask questions when needed and complete the work-based development programme in a timely manner.

The candidate
We are looking for motivated engineering placement students who are eager to learn and contribute to a team. The ideal candidate will be:
- Currently studying engineering, construction management or a related discipline as part of a placement or internship programme.
- A clear communicator with good verbal and written skills.
- Positive, reliable and comfortable asking questions when guidance is needed.
- Interested in construction project delivery, site operations and engineering practice.
- Detail-focused, safety-conscious and willing to take ownership of assigned tasks.
- Eager to learn, open to feedback and willing to develop through practical site experience.
This placement is a strong foundation for students who want to build a future career in construction. Successful placement students may have the opportunity to join Flynn’s Graduate Programme when they graduate, supporting their progression from placement student to graduate team member.
