    Job description

    Responsible for providing quality patient care following established standards and practices under the supervision of a licensed physician. Assists physician and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and patient access. Coordinates patient flow, schedules appointments, procedures, tests and referrals.

    Responsibilities

    Job Function :

    1. Assists physician in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient needs during examinations, treatments and emergency situations. Assists physician with diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, assuring procedures are provided in a safe, clean, competent manner/environment. Maintains a clean, safe, well-stocked patient care area, including patient examination rooms. Administers oral, rectal, subcutaneous, and intra muscular medications and/or injections. Maintains a complete, accurate, legible medical record reflecting the patient's condition, medication, treatment and any other pertinent information relevant to total patient care according to professional standards and procedures. Provides telephone triage/communication, calls in prescriptions, orders diagnostic studies as defined by protocol or per physician instructions. Thoroughly educates and explains procedures to patients and family members, and assists them in coping with illnesses and hospitalizations under the direction of the physician. Maintains confidentiality regarding patient and business functions of the office. Demonstrates a positive customer service oriented attitude/behavior. Functions independently and assumes responsibility for actions in clinical procedures in accordance with ability and training after clinical ability has been demonstrated and documented. Maintains a working knowledge of business office protocol/procedures. Aids in identifying methods of improving patient care. Seeks out and pursues educational opportunities. Obtains continuing education units to maintain certification or registration as a Medical Assistant. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
    2. Prolonged periods of standing, walking, or sitting while on duty. Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Transferring, repositioning patients. Reaching, stooping, bending, kneeing, and crouching for patient care functions. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required. Optimal auditory acuity required. Manual dexterity involving the handling of equipment and instruments or needles is essential to performing assigned duties. Ability to perform effectively in a stressful and fast-paced environment. Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests. Physical conditions are clean, neat and well lit. Maybe subjected to unpleasant sights and odors, stressful situations and hazardous or infectious agents where judgment as to precautions need to be taken is essential. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced. Exposure to limited amounts of hazardous chemicals or substances and infectious disease processes are a possibility. Hours of duty maybe irregular or unexpectedly extended due to emergency circumstances. Direct contact with blood or other body fluids to which universal precautions apply. Personal protective equipment is made available and must be worn

    Qualifications

    Education :

    1. Graduate of an approved school for Medical Assistants.

    Work Experience :

    1. Two years experience in a physician office setting. Ability to make decisions and initiate action under stress and in critical situations. Effective verbal and written communication skills.

    Skills Abilities :

    1. Current CPR certification. Current Certification or Registration as a Medical Assistant. Successful completion of St. Dominic Medication Administration Review and Examination within one month of employment.
