    Job description

    Overview

Fortune is seeking a Creative Director to lead and evolve the visual expression of one of the world’s most influential business media brands. This person will oversee design across Fortune’s marketing and global print and digital platforms, partnering closely with marketing, video, social, events, editorial, photo, and commercial teams.

Reporting into the Executive Creative Director, the Creative Director will be a visual leader and hands-on creative thinker who can set a clear design vision, inspire a multidisciplinary team, and deliver cohesive work across high-profile franchises, brand initiatives, and live experiences.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead the creative direction and visual design of Fortune’s global brand across online and offline media and marketing.
    • Shape the visual identity of major Fortune franchises, lists, rankings, and special projects—including Fortune 500, Most Powerful Women, and emerging properties.
    • Establish and maintain cohesive visual systems across newsletters, social, video, events, print, web, and other brand touchpoints.
    • Guide the design team and external creative partners, providing clear direction, constructive feedback, and high standards for craft and execution.
    • Commission and direct illustration, photography, typography, and other creative assets, matching talent and visual approaches to each project’s brand objectives.
    • Manage relationships with freelance artists and vendors, including rate negotiation, onboarding, and allocation of creative resources.
    • Lead logo and identity development for Fortune franchises, accolades, and live-media programs.
    • Collaborate with key stakeholders to evolve Fortune’s brand standards, including typography, color, graphic systems, and guidelines; identify scalable ways to make these resources accessible across the organization.
    • Serve as a strategic creative partner to teams developing new video, social, event, and franchises, ensuring that new initiatives launch with a distinctive and consistent visual identity.

    Requirements

    • 10+ years of relevant creative leadership experience in design, publishing, media, agency, or a similarly fast-paced brand environment.
    • A portfolio demonstrating exceptional design, brand identity, art direction, typography, and visual storytelling across online and offline channels.
    • Experience leading creative work for a recognized media, consumer, cultural, or premium brand with a high bar for craft and consistency.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop visual identities and flexible design systems that translate across platforms, including marketing, print, web, social, video, and events.
    • Experience managing and mentoring designers, as well as directing freelance creatives, illustrators, photographers, and other external partners.
    • Proven project-management experience, including commissioning creative work, negotiating rates and usage, and prioritizing resources.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, collaboration, and project-management skills.
    • Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution, manage multiple high-visibility projects, and make thoughtful decisions under deadline.
    • Deep fluency in industry-standard design tools and production workflows, including Adobe Creative Suite; familiarity with evolving digital brand-management tools is a plus.
    • A commitment to inclusive, thoughtful creative work and a curiosity about business, leadership, innovation, and the forces shaping the global economy.
