Mō te tūranga | About the role

Join Fulton Hogan’s paving team as a Leading Hand and help deliver Good Work that keeps New Zealand moving. In this hands-on role, you’ll support the day-to-day delivery of paving works, lead by example on site, and help keep the crew working safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. You’ll work closely with the Foreman or Supervisor, step up when needed, and bring the kind of practical know-how that keeps the job moving.

This is a role for someone who enjoys being out in the field, takes pride in quality work, and knows how to balance a relaxed, team-first approach with serious standards when it counts. If you’re a capable operator who backs themself, looks out for others, and wants to keep building their career in paving, this could be your next move.

Ngā tino kawenga mahi | Key role responsibilities

• Support the Foreman or Supervisor with daily workflow across paving activities and help keep work on track, on time, and to standard.
• Operate machinery and handheld equipment you are trained, competent, and licensed to use, while checking plant and equipment is in good working order.
• Lead from the front on safety by taking part in pre-starts, risk planning, incident reporting, and speaking up when something is not right.
• Help train and guide less experienced team members in the correct use of machinery, equipment, and site practices.
• Carry out hands-on site tasks such as lifting and shifting materials, general labouring, housekeeping, and other duties reasonably requested on site.

• A minimum Class 2 licence and current W, T, R endorsements.
• Experience and understanding of traffic management requirements on active sites, with STMS Level 1 preferred.
• A current First Aid certificate would be advantageous.
• Proven experience in civil construction or paving, with confidence operating machinery and supporting site delivery.
• A practical, reliable, safety-focused approach, with a can-do attitude, respect for others, and a willingness to learn and grow.
