The Opportunity
The Manager, Environment is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the design, oversight, and execution of Galore Creek Mining Corporation’s (“GCMC”) environmental program. You will lead all baseline environmental studies, field work campaigns, and environmental effects assessments. Furthermore, you will spearhead the Project's strategic approach to water stewardship, climate change, and closure planning. As we advance through a comprehensive Prefeasibility Study and prepare for major regulatory approvals, we are seeking a visionary environmental leader to shape the future of our sustainability efforts.
Providing critical professional leadership, you will oversee planning, budgeting, contracting strategies, and program implementation as the Project advances through major engineering studies and regulatory milestones. You will manage a high-performing team inclusive of internal personnel and an extensive network of external contractors and environmental consultants.
The position is a hybrid arrangement, reporting to either our Smithers, BC or Vancouver, BC offices. Relocation assistance is available. While primarily office-based, the position requires travel throughout Northwest BC, including to communities of our Indigenous partners and other Communities of Interest (COIs). Regular time at the Galore Creek Project site is an expectation.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead GCMC’s environmental studies, field monitoring programs and environmental effects assessments required for Project advancement, ensuring environmental information is effectively integrated into Project planning, engineering design and decision-making.
- Lead annual and multi-year environmental program planning and execution, including work plans, schedules, budgets, procurement, contracting and oversight of consultants, laboratories and other external technical services.
- Lead, manage and mentor direct reports, consultants and multidisciplinary technical resources, fostering a culture of safety, accountability and environmental excellence.
- Provide strategic leadership for water stewardship, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and progressive closure planning, ensuring these considerations are integrated into mine planning, water, tailings, engineering and other Project studies.
- Direct environmental compliance activities and work closely with Regulatory and Field Operations to support provincial and federal environmental assessment, permitting and regulatory processes, including required management plans and monitoring programs.
- Collaborate with the Social Responsibility team, the Tahltan Nation, other Indigenous partners and Communities of Interest to integrate Indigenous land use, cultural heritage and Indigenous Peoples Knowledge, particularly Tahltan Knowledge, into relevant environmental studies and Project planning.
- Represent GCMC as a senior environmental leader in technical working groups, regulatory processes and hearings, community meetings, open houses and other external forums. Collaborate with the Manager, SERA and senior Project Team members on clear, credible public-facing Project information and communications.

- Lead GCMC’s environmental studies, field monitoring programs and environmental effects assessment work required to support Project advancement, ensuring environmental information is effectively integrated into planning, engineering design and decision-making.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, forestry, biology or a related natural resource discipline. A post-graduate degree in a related field is an asset.
- Professional Registration, or immediate eligibility for registration, as an applicable Qualified Professional (QP) in BC (eg. P.Eng., P.Geo., R.P.Bio., P.Ag.) is an asset.
- 10-15+ years of progressive experience in environmental management with a distinct preference for large-scale mining or major infrastructure development in British Columbia, including environmental assessment and project development.
- Deep knowledge of the BC Environmental Assessment Act, Impact Assessment Act (IAA), and applicable provincial and federal mining and regulatory requirements, with demonstrated experience applying regulatory to major project planning and execution.
- Proven leadership and program-management experience, including developing and managing budgets and work plans, overseeing complex consultant contracts, and providing direction to employees, consultants, and multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Broad mining and major-project knowledge, with an understanding of the interrelationships between environmental assessment, engineering and project design, mine development, construction and site operations, mine rock and tailings management, mineral processing, water stewardship, climate change, and closure planning.
- Substantial experience working within integrated Project and engineering teams, preferably from an owner’s-team perspective, with demonstrated ability to integrate environmental considerations, regulatory requirements, and environmental assessment commitments into Project design and decision-making.
- Strong business and strategic judgement, with a demonstrated ability to identify effective solutions, understand Project and business drivers, influence decision-making, build alignment and achieve desired outcomes.
- Demonstrated ability to succeed in complex and evolving Project environments, build trusted relationships across multidisciplinary teams, and work effectively with Indigenous Peoples, regulators, consultants, service providers and communities.
- Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, prepare concise written materials, facilitate discussions, and represent GCMC professionally in external and potentially challenging public settings.
- Ability to work in remote terrain, uneven surfaces, and all-weather conditions.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record and Background Checks.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada.
