GE Vernova is seeking a Service Engineer to support the growth of our Hydro Power generator service business in Norway. This role combines engineering analysis with practical, site-based problem-solving, supporting rehabilitation, maintenance, repair, and upgrade projects for hydro power generators across the Norwegian market.
As part of a global leader in generator technology and services, you will work closely with customers, project teams, workshop resources, and international engineering specialists to deliver high-quality technical solutions. Job Description

The Service Engineer supports hydro power generator service projects across the full lifecycle — from early technical assessment and proposal support through project execution, commissioning, and warranty follow-up. The role includes technical analysis, site inspections, repair and maintenance scope definition, technical coordination, and engineering support during key execution phases.

This is a flexible and varied position that can be shaped to some extent around business needs and the experience of the successful candidate. It is well suited to an engineer who wants to work close to installed equipment and real project delivery, turning engineering assessments into practical and effective solutions.

You will be part of GE Vernova’s Hydro team in Norway, working closely with colleagues based in Skøyen and Lier on project delivery, while also drawing on the expertise of a strong international engineering community.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the main engineering point of contact for customers during project execution
• Review customer requirements and site conditions to define the most suitable technical solution
• Support preparation of technical proposals for spare parts, inspections, maintenance activities, rehabilitation work, and minor repairs
• Carry out site visits, inspections, and technical assessments of existing generator equipment
• Define repair and maintenance scope based on equipment condition and project requirements
• Support project execution by coordinating technical activities with internal teams, workshop resources, and external partners
• Provide engineering support during manufacturing, installation, commissioning, testing, and other critical project phases
• Ensure delivery in line with safety, quality, cost, and schedule requirements
• Manage technical changes, non-conformities, and engineering issues during project execution
• Identify opportunities for additional service, maintenance, and repair work based on site findings and customer needs
• Contribute to continuous improvement and lessons learned across projects

Qualifications and experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineering
• Relevant experience in hydro power, rotating equipment, marine, oil and gas, power generation, or other heavy industrial environments involving large electromechanical systems
• Experience with generator service, rehabilitation, maintenance, retrofit projects, or related service engineering work is a strong advantage
• Good understanding of mechanical engineering, assembly methods, and site execution
• Experience reading and working with technical drawings and CAD tools such as AutoCAD and NX
• Knowledge of strength of materials, finite element analysis, metallurgy, or welding processes is an advantage
• Strong communication and coordination skills
• Ability to work independently and take ownership in a customer-facing engineering role
• Valid right to work in Norway is required, together with a strong understanding of the Norwegian language and fluency in English
• Willingness to travel internationally and within the Nordic region as needed
