Position Summary
The Helper - Mechanical/HVAC supports mechanical and HVAC field crews with the installation, maintenance, and construction of commercial and industrial mechanical systems. This entry-level position assists with ductwork, piping, equipment installation, material handling, and jobsite support activities while learning industry best practices, construction methods, and safety standards.
The Helper plays an important role in supporting project productivity, maintaining organized and safe jobsites, and developing the foundational skills necessary for a successful career in the mechanical and HVAC trades. Through hands-on training and mentorship, this position gains valuable experience working with mechanical systems, HVAC equipment, and construction operations.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Assist mechanical and HVAC crews with daily construction and installation activities.
- Support the installation of HVAC equipment, ductwork, piping systems, curbs, hangers, supports, and associated components.
- Assist with fabricating, assembling, sealing, and installing ductwork systems.
- Cut, thread, measure, and prepare piping materials under supervision.
- Transport, organize, stage, and inventory materials, tools, and equipment throughout the jobsite.
- Assist with equipment setting, rigging preparation, and material movement activities.
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas in accordance with company and jobsite requirements.
- Operate basic hand tools, power tools, and equipment as trained and authorized.
- Support project setup, material deliveries, inventory management, and jobsite logistics.
- Enter basic project, equipment, and site information into field applications and documentation systems as required.
- Follow installation instructions and supervisor direction to complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently.
- Participate in jobsite safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training programs.
- Learn HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, piping systems, installation practices, and industry standards.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, technicians, and project team members.
- Support project startup, punch-list completion, and closeout activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
