Job Description
We offer a competitive salary for this role, with an expected range of $114,000 - $145,000. The final offer will depend on your experience, skills, and overall qualifications. The Craft Administration Section Manager is a mid-level leadership role responsible for leading Craft Administration activities and ensuring consistent execution of critical labor and workforce processes across Operations. Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Section Manager plays a key role in supporting Safety, Quality, Schedule, Cost, and People objectives by ensuring the right workforce is effectively deployed, labor agreements are consistently administered, and workforce issues are addressed quickly and effectively. The role works closely with Trades, Labor Relations, Human Resources, and union leadership to support production priorities and maintain effective labor-management relationships.
Key Responsibilities:
Labor & Workforce Administration
- Oversee Craft Administration (CA) staff activities including personnel moves, polling, loans, transfers, discipline, layoffs, and Return to Work (RTW) and Stay at Work (SAW) processes
- Manage departmental loan and overtime polling processes
- Support Trade Superintendents and Human Resources with workforce planning, interviews, and hiring activities
- Ensure timely and consistent administration of workforce processes supporting production needs
Contract Administration & Labor Relations
- Provide guidance to CA staff, Trade Superintendents, and Front Line Supervision on collective bargaining agreement interpretation
- Ensure consistent administration of labor contracts, policies, and processes
- Partner with Trades, Labor Relations, Human Resources, and union representatives to resolve issues and support effective labor-management relationships
Business Performance & Compliance
- Manage the Craft Administration budget and monitor costs within the function
- Maintain metrics and monitor labor administration activities for compliance and performance
- Identify and address workforce administration issues impacting operations
Team Leadership & Development
- Provide leadership, coaching, performance management, and development for CA staff
- Establish priorities and promote accountability, consistency, and effective work planning
- Develop team capability in contract administration, problem solving, and communication
Continuous Improvement
- Apply BOS principles to improve Craft Administration processes and standardized work
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, communication, and compliance
Required/Preferred Education/Training
- High school diploma/GED required
- Degree in Labor Relations, Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred
Required/Preferred Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of Labor Relations, Craft Administration, or related experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Minimum 3-5 years supervisory experience.
- Familiarity with BIW and LS6 labor contracts
- Strong leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and conflict management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization and union representatives
- Proficiency with WFM, JIRA, Microsoft Office, and related business systems
- Knowledge of shipbuilding processes preferred
