Job Summary
Welds a variety of metals and alloys, including dissimilar materials | Operates welding, cutting, soldering and brazing equipment to join or repair metal components | May set up or operate welding or heat‑treating robots | Leads daily work activities, assigns tasks, supports training, and helps resolve production or equipment issues while ensuring safety and quality standards

General Profile
- Requires specialized expertise in technical processes or procedures
- Completes assignments and facilitates the work activities of others; may coordinate work beyond own area
- May act as a lead, providing subject matter guidance to team members but is not a supervisor
- Works autonomously within established procedures and practices; proposing improvements to processes and methods as needed
- May also be in charge of leading training for employees
- Performs manual tasks according to established procedures
Essential Functions
- Joins, fabricates, and repairs metal parts and other weldable material to form permanent bonds by applying appropriate welding techniques.
- Prepares the materials and set up for a welding device or robot.
- Welds metal components and parts using specialized equipment such as gas welders and gas torches.
- Uses electrical currents to create heat and bond metals.
- Plans work by interpreting blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics.
- Observes tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
Required Qualifications
- Required education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 7-8 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred education and experience: Associate's Degree
- Discipline/Major: Technical training preferred
- Knowledge, skills & abilities: Technical expertise. Planning skills. Detail oriented. Manual dexterity. Welding. Inspection. Safety procedures. Reading blueprints/diagrams.
- Team Leadership Training and Experience
Physical Requirements
- Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
- Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
- May need to stand for long periods of time.
- Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
- May be requested to work a different shift.
- Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
- This position is Safety-Sensitive.
Travel Requirements
No or very little travel likely.
