Position Summary
Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician assists with the preparation, processing, and dispensing of prescription medications while ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with all state, federal, and organizational regulations. This position supports pharmacy operations through exceptional customer service, inventory management, prescription processing, and patient confidentiality.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive, process, and prepare prescription orders for pharmacist verification.
- Verify and enter patient demographic and prescription information accurately.
- Bill prescriptions using insurance plans, third-party payers, and 340B pricing programs as appropriate.
- Prepare and label medications according to established procedures.
- Assist with inventory management, medication ordering, stocking, and replenishment.
- Provide professional customer service to patients in person and by telephone.
- Maintain accurate records and properly file prescription documentation.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, South Carolina Board of Pharmacy regulations, and Genesis Healthcare policies.
- Support pharmacy operational goals and quality improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, providers, clinic staff, patients, and vendors.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by pharmacy leadership.

Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Professional Requirements
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) or Registered Pharmacy Technician required.
- Pharmacy Technician License in good standing with no restrictions through the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy.
- Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program or a minimum of three (3) years of pharmacy technician experience required.
- Successful completion of a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word and the ability to learn electronic health record, billing, and pharmacy software systems.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Customer service experience, preferably in a healthcare or pharmacy setting.
- Ability to handle confidential information in a professional and discreet manner.
- Must participate in onboarding requirements and annual health assessments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods, including viewing a computer screen for up to six hours per day.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard and office equipment.
- Ability to remain stationary for extended periods, up to four hours at a time.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through written correspondence.
- Ability to function effectively in a busy and occasionally stressful healthcare environment.
