PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of heavy machinery including excavators, bulldozers, grader, rollers, 6X6 all wheel drive trucks and equipment to support site preparation, material movement, and overall operational productivity. The role requires precision, discipline, and strict adherence to safety and operational procedures within Geotic Industries Inc.’s field-based environment.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Heavy Equipment Operator shall:
- Equipment Operation
- Operate excavators for digging, trenching, lifting, and material placement
- Operate bulldozers for grading, clearing, and terrain preparation
- Operate equipment for large-volume material handling
- Perform precision digging and controlled load transfer
- Site and Operational Activities
- Conduct trenching, grading, and clearing operations
- Assess terrain conditions and identify operational risks
- Ensure safe navigation across varying site conditions
- Support site supervisors in operational planning and execution
- Perform other duties relevant to operational requirements
- Inspection and Maintenance
- Conduct daily pre-use inspections of all assigned equipment
- Complete and maintain equipment logs and usage records
- Monitor equipment performance during operation
- Report mechanical faults or defects immediately to the Mine Manager
- Safety and Compliance
- Follow all instructions from supervisors and management
- Adhere strictly to all safety, operational, and environmental procedures
- Ensure safe load handling and machine operation at all times
- Participate in toolbox meetings and safety drills
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
Reports to: Mine Manager
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 year’s experience operating heavy equipment (excavator and/or bulldozer)
- Minimum 2 year’s experience operating dragger equipment (preferred)
- Valid heavy machinery license or certification
- Proven safety record
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Advanced heavy equipment operation skills
- Load management and material handling techniques
- Terrain navigation and risk awareness
- Basic mechanical knowledge for identifying equipment issues

- Mandatory participation in safety meetings and drills
- Immediate reporting of hazards, incidents, or unsafe conditions
LEGAL AND OPERATIONAL SAFEGUARDS
- Mandatory medical fitness clearance prior to employment
- Immediate suspension for unsafe operation or safety violations
- Disciplinary action for breaches of Company policies or procedures
- Employment governed by the labour laws of Guyana
