PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The primary purpose of the Pit Worker role is to support continuous field operations by assisting in material movement, slurry generation, pumping processes, and general pit maintenance to ensure efficient, safe, and uninterrupted production activities at Geotic Industries Inc. operational sites.
The role is physically demanding and requires the use of specialised equipment and manual labour to maintain workflow, equipment functionality, and site cleanliness in accordance with operational, safety, and environmental standards.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Pit Duties
- Assist in maintaining continuous operational flow within the pit area.
- Follow instructions from the Pit Supervisor and senior operators.
- Perform manual labour including shovelling, clearing debris, managing hoses and pipes, and repositioning equipment.
- Monitor pit conditions and report hazards, equipment issues, or unsafe conditions immediately.
- daily tool-box meetings and safety briefings.
- Ensure work areas remain organised, accessible, and free of obstructions.
- Support maintenance teams by cleaning and preparing equipment.
- Assist with site clean-up, shutdown procedures, and end-of-shift handovers.
- Assist in pit duties as required, instructed in and around mining site
Jetman (Firehose Operator)
- Operate high-pressure fire hoses to break down material into slurry.
- Control water flow direction, pressure, and angle to maximise slurry output.
- Prevent hose entanglement, blockages, or unsafe spray directions.
- Work closely with pump operators to ensure slurry feed remains consistent.
- Inspect hoses daily for leaks, damage, or pressure risks.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
The Pit Worker reports directly to the designated Pit Supervisor or Mine manager, and operationally supports senior operators and the Mine Manager.
SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE OBLIGATIONS
Pit Workers are required to:
- Strictly comply with all Company Safety and OSH policies.
- Wear mandatory PPE at all times (helmet, boots, gloves, reflective vest, eye protection).
- Follow lock-out and equipment handling procedures.
- Participate in safety training, drills, and medical evaluations.
- Refrain from alcohol or drug use before or during shifts.
- Immediately report injuries, near misses, or unsafe conditions.
Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action or termination.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Basic literacy and ability to follow verbal instructions.
- Physically fit and able to work in wet, muddy, and high-temperature environments.
- Willingness to work long hours, rotating shifts, and remote locations.
- No formal education required, but technical exposure is an asset.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Preferred but not mandatory:
- Prior experience in field operations, construction, agriculture, or heavy manual labour.
- Familiarity with hoses, pumps, or mechanical tools.
- Understanding of basic safety rules and teamwork in industrial environments.
Training will be provided on-site.
