Superintendent

POSITION SUMMARY

The Superintendent is responsible for the daily management and coordination of all field activities to ensure the project is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with the plans and specifications. Essential responsibilities include supervising trade partners, coordinating onsite operations, enforcing safety and quality standards, and supporting project planning and execution.

The Superintendent serves as the primary onsite representative for the company and plays a critical role in communicating with trade partners, inspectors, and the Project Manager to maintain progress and resolve field challenges. This position directly influences the success of each project through strong leadership, effective problem-solving, and consistent implementation of Gibbs Construction’s standards for quality, professionalism, and integrity.

The Superintendent is responsible for the field execution of each assigned project and is expected to foster a collaborative, safe, and productive jobsite environment aligned with the company’s vision, values, and culture. This position may require some night-time work.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Preconstruction & Planning

• Review plans, specifications, and site conditions to understand scope and logistics.
• Support preconstruction meetings, safety planning, and schedule development.
• Assist with mobilization planning and long-lead item coordination.

Scheduling & Coordination

• Lead daily onsite coordination with trade partners to maintain schedule and quality.
• Maintain the two-week look-ahead and support overall schedule updates.
• Coordinate inspections, testing, and required documentation to avoid delays

Field Supervision & Execution

• Supervise all field operations, including manpower, equipment, deliveries, and sequencing.
• Ensure subcontractors perform work per plans, specs, and company standards.
• Monitor progress, productivity, and craftsmanship; implement corrective actions as needed.
• Complete accurate daily reports and maintain site documentation.

Quality Control

• Conduct preparatory meetings for definable features of work.
• Perform routine quality checks and ensure compliance with contract documents.
• Coordinate and track inspections, testing, and required QC paperwork.
• Maintain updated plans, specs, RFIs, and changes onsite.

Safety Leadership

• Enforce company and site-specific safety requirements.
• Conduct daily safety walkthroughs and weekly safety meetings.
• Verify subcontractor insurance, JHAs, and safety documentation before work begins.
• Assist with near-miss reporting and incident investigations

Communication & Documentation

• Maintain clear, professional communication with owners, trade partners, inspectors, and the project team.
• Post and communicate plan revisions, permits, and emergency information.
• Support the Project Manager with field input for cost control, changes, and schedule tracking.

Teamwork & Leadership

• Provide direction to subcontractors, foremen, and field staff.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager on manpower, materials, sequencing, and project needs.
• Promote a professional, quality-focused, and safety-first jobsite culture.

General Responsibilities

• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management preferred
• Three to 10 years of related experience and/or training in the construction field
• Exposure to layout, QC, and like construction skills helpful

COMPUTER SKILLS

• Basic personal computer skills
• Microsoft Office Suite

CERTIFICATE/LICENSES

• First aid and CPR Certificate
• OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Certificate
• OSHA Training pertaining to scaffolds, steel erections, fall protection, excavations and electrical safety

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical and mental demands of this position must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
