    Job Title:  TRANSFER STATION EQUIPMENT OPERATOR– SOLID WASTE DIVISION

    Department:  Solid Waste
    Immediate Supervisor: Solid Waste Team Leader
    Supervises: N/A
    Pay Grade: NE9 $24.79 - $32.21
    Hiring Range: $24.79 - $28.49
    Status: Full-Time
    Classification: Non-Exempt
    Primary Place of Work: Transfer Station

    Primary Responsibility:   The Transfer Station Attendant is responsible for assisting in the daily operation of the transfer station which includes the County’s slash/mulch program.  Operates a variety of heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, semi-trucks w/trailers and roll-off trucks; loads and hauls roll-off containers; grinds debris; services and maintains assigned equipment. The duties listed below are representative of this position but do not necessarily include all duties that an individual in this position may be properly called upon to perform.

    • Performs preventive maintenance on all assigned equipment.
    • Operates heavy equipment such as roll-off truck, semi-truck w/walking floor trailer, rubber tire loader, excavator, compactor, grinding equipment and any other solid waste vehicle/machinery as deemed necessary. Completes paperwork per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations necessary. Completes paperwork per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
    • Assists and advises residents and the public on proper disposal options within our facility and provides direction to these options.  Assists as necessary elderly, disabled, handicapped, and other customers with the disposal of their items. This includes but is not limited to carrying trash bags to the compactor; recycle items to the recycle bin and unloading debris. Assists residents and the public in a respectful, friendly manner when approached with questions.
    • Collects appropriate fees, documents them according to office procedures and utilizes the cash register according to county guidelines.  Balances cash register drawer at end of each shift/day and prepare deposits
    • Monitors and screens vehicles for hazardous waste or unauthorized waste. When loads fall outside of regulation parameters, advises residents of proper disposal options outside our organization.
    • Picks up trash, debris and other refuse as needed ensuring Transfer Station work area remains clean and orderly.
    • Assists co-workers in the safe handling of refuse and in other duties as appropriate
    • Assists in ensuring equipment, vehicles and machinery is cleaned and presentable at all times. 
    • When workload permits, monitors deliveries by verifying that loads conform to posted regulations outside of our organization
    • Opens and closes all entrances into transfer site each day of operation.
    • Removes snow from the transfer station walks, concrete areas, parking and yard areas prior to business hours and during business hours
    • Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by the Director of Public Works and Road and Bridge Supervisor and any duties needed to stabilize an emergency situation.
    • May be required to work weekends.

    Minimum job requirements:

    • Must possess FEMA ICS 100 and 700 certifications within 6 months of employment (County supported after hired)
    • Must pass background check, including criminal history.
    • Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License without any restrictions due to driving record.  Must also be able to drive a county vehicle.
    • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
    • Must have a Colorado CDL Class B with air brake and tanker endorsements
    • Must  Possess Flagger Certification in the State of Colorado or be able to obtain Certification within six (6) months of employment.

    Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

    Experience and Work Ethic:

    • Previous customer service experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of slash and/or tree removal preferred.

    • Must possess strong community interest, while understanding the County government organization, function, policy rules and regulations.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member.
    • Ability to review and evaluate operating procedures and recommend improvements.
    • Use of professional and personal discretion to protect the County from any actual and/or perceived appearances of impropriety.
    • Applicate Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
    • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

    Mental/Physical Demands:

    • Exposure to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, chemicals, etc.)
    • Must be able to stoop, bend, stretch, twist, reach, kneel and squat.
    • Must be able to sit, stand or walk for long periods of time.
    • Must be capable of working in stressful situations including plowing snow in bad weather.
    • Must have appropriate voice skills to be clearly understood on the telephone, radio and in public contact.
    • Work is performed outside where employee is subject to a variety of climatic conditions such as cold, heat, wind, rain and dust.
    • Must be able to perform the physical movements required for manual labor and equipment operation.
