Qualifications:
- 2 years of work-related experience in facilities, custodial, and grounds keeping services.
- Proficient in customer service.
- Proficient in observation, receiving, communication, time management, and organizational skills.
- Previous janitorial or custodial experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to follow directions and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Compassion and professionalism when working in a shelter environment.
- Basic computer skills required to check emails, take required trainings, etc.
- Maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License and must have a clean driving record.
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
Physical Demands:
- Aability to frequently walk, stand, sit, climb stairs, lift equipment, twist, pull and/or bend numerous times throughout the day. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs independently
- Ability to work outdoors in the heat and/or cold when necessary. Ability to use hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, and hedge or brush trimmers.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as buffers, extractors, scrubbers, and power washers

Reports to: Facilities Manager
Starting rate of pay: $15.15
The Facilities / Janitorial Technician helps maintain a clean, safe, welcoming, and sanitary environment for shelter guests, staff, volunteers, and visitors. This position supports the daily operations of the shelter through janitorial services, basic facility upkeep, restocking supplies, and assisting with cleanliness throughout the property. The ideal candidate is dependable, compassionate, team-oriented, and able to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Janitorial & Cleaning Duties
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, showers, dorms, offices, common areas, intake areas, and other shelter spaces.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and disinfect floors and surfaces daily.
- Empty trash and replace liners throughout the property.
- Restock restroom and cleaning supplies as needed.
- Clean windows, mirrors, doors, and high-touch surfaces.
- Assist with deep cleaning projects and special cleaning assignments.
Facility Support
- Monitor cleanliness and safety throughout the shelter property.
- Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damages, or supply needs to supervisors.
- Assist with room setups, moving supplies, and other operational support tasks.
- Help maintain cleaning equipment and ensure proper use of janitorial tools and chemicals.
- Follow all safety procedures and infection-control guidelines.
- Interact respectfully and professionally with shelter guests, staff, volunteers, and visitors.
- Support a positive, welcoming, and respectful environment for all individuals served.
- Work cooperatively with team members and other departments.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Professional Development
