    The Opportunity:

    The Aggregate and Geotechnical Services Unit within the Design and Construction Division supports a wide range of internal and external clients by providing expertise and resources related to sand and gravel supply. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who enjoys exploring Saskatchewan's diverse landscapes and contributing to the successful delivery of the ministry's annual preservation and capital infrastructure programs. This permanent, full-time position is based in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

    Responsibilities

    • Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of aggregate resource staff and contractors.
    • Develop work and delivery plans for aggregate materials required for current and long-range highway projects in the province.
    • Assess the feasibility of developing sand and gravel sources while considering risks, benefits, and comparing with other delivery alternatives.
    • Plan, organize, develop, and assign annual consultant work planning schedules for the purpose of locating aggregate and other material deposits.
    • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations and coordinate with other ministries and stakeholders prior to the execution of geophysical surveys and subsurface investigations.
    • Administer sand and gravel permits to citizens and local governments.
    • Approximately 40% of the job involves travel to various gravel sources in the province, including into remote areas. A valid driver’s license and the ability to travel independently is necessary for this role. Travel to resource sites for inspections and attend stakeholder meetings.

    Technical Knowledge and Skills: 

    Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through completion of a geoscience degree in fields such as geology, geography, or related disciplines, or a diploma in applied sciences and technology, coupled with related work experience.

    • Perform desktop reviews using satellite and air photo landform analysis.
    • Perform on-site field inspections and handheld GPS surveys of the aggregate assets using methods and techniques associated with aggregate resource management.
    • Use computer software including AutoCAD, databases, and geospatial information systems.
