    The Opportunity:

    The Ministry of Community Safety is seeking a confident and positive role model to manage the overall operations of a living unit within the Prince Albert Correctional Center.  As one of the key members of the Correction Division’s management team, the Assistant Deputy Director of Programs provides leadership and direction in program development and delivery; security management; and human resources.

    The successful candidate will directly supervise 15 to 20 employees, and manage a work unit through the application of Community Safety Planning and Core Correctional Practices

    To be considered for this position, you will have knowledge of The Correctional Services Act and Regulations, correctional policies, procedures and programs, criminogenic factors and offender case management principles, and human behavior, interpersonal communication and counselling methodologies within an institutional corrections environment.

    Typically, the knowledge and experience required for this position would be obtained through a degree in the social sciences or equivalent and supervisory experience in an institutional corrections environment. As the Assistant Deputy Director of Programs, you will have the demonstrated ability to be honest and reliable; treat everyone with dignity and respect; be committed to the pursuit of excellence; exhibit leadership and professionalism; embrace diversity and equality; and be responsible and accountable

    Responsibilities

    • Ensures delivery and evaluation of correctional programs in a multi-level correctional facility.
    • Provides strategic leadership and direct supervision to supervisors, youth workers and program specialists.
    • Liaises with other ministries, civic and federal agencies and community groups to establish coordination of program delivery and application of justice activities.
    • Provides support in the daily management of the centre.

    To be successful in this position, you will demonstrate:

    • Knowledge of the principals, standards, practices, jurisprudence and trends in the criminal justice system, corrections and institutional operations;

    • Knowledge of correctional theories, practices and interventions for addressing the criminogenic and special needs of offenders;

    • Knowledge of financial management principles and practices;

    • Experience with human resource management practices including supervision, coaching, performance management, labour relations and recruitment strategies to support and sustain a diverse workforce; and

    • Knowledge of multi-cultural beliefs, values and perspectives particularly for Métis and First Nations people
