    The Opportunity

    Reporting to the Director, the Deputy Director, Operational Support’s key role is the provision of oversight, leadership and expertise to the development and implementation of correctional operations in a large and complex institutional setting. The position is expected to support and ensure the overall effective service delivery, policy compliance and consistent application of the Correctional Services Administration Act and Regulations and specifically as it relates to: the Pine Grove Correctional Center facility training/recruitment; operational support services (Quality Assurance/PRISM); communication security processes; and operational audits as assigned by the Director.  You will be responsible to enhance management presence and leadership within this facility and contribute directly to improving staff performance, preparedness and accountability, as well as improved correctional practices. Your excellent communication skills will serve you well as you provide coaching, support and direction to the middle and peer senior manager teams while promoting effective and positive industrial relations in a union environment. You will provide leadership in staff training and orientation sessions, and make formal presentations at meetings on subjects pertaining to operational matters and labor relations.

    Your post-secondary degree in a related field or comparable experience, training, and/or certification will complement your knowledge of facility management principles and practices, the purpose and framework of a collective agreement in a unionized environment and knowledge of the Canadian justice and correctional systems. Preference will be given to candidates who have leadership work experience within a large correctional centre.

    Responsibilities

    • Oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of program activities to ensure alignment with the Ministry, government priorities and policy objectives.
    • Monitors program performance, budgets, and outcomes, ensuring accountability, compliance, and continuous improvement across all operational areas.
    • Provides strategic leadership and oversight to a team, ensuring effective service delivery aligned with ministry standards.
    • Leads and supports special projects and strategic initiatives, applying change and project management expertise.
    • Drives continuous improvement by identifying operational gaps and collaborating on solutions to enhance systems and processes.
    • Manages branch operations, including general administration, issue resolution, and central coordination.
    • Develops, reviews, and ensures quality assurance of branch policies, procedures, briefing notes, letters, and publications.
    • Builds and maintains strong relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders through effective liaison and engagement.
    • Organizes, chairs, and facilitates stakeholder meetings with tact and professionalism.
    • Analyzes program services to inform service delivery strategies and optimize client experience.
    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to design and deliver high-quality, client-centered services.

    • The Canadian justice and correctional systems (federal and provincial) including general operational requirements of a correctional centre including security systems;
    • First Nations and Métis culture and responsibility needs;
    • Institutional operations threat assessment issues and counter strategies;
    • Correctional Theories, Practices and Interventions for addressing the criminogenic needs of offenders; and
    • Computer software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
