    The Opportunity:

    The SPSA is seeking Electronics Technologists.  Reporting to the Technical Services Unit Supervisor, the incumbent will apply knowledge and technical expertise of wireless voice and data communications systems, principles and processes in the effective delivery of public safety telecommunications support services.  The position is headquartered in Regina.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide technical support and maintenance for the Provincial Public Safety Telecommunications Network (PPSTN), including mobile two-way radio communications systems, dispatch consoles, and related communications infrastructure.

    • Install, configure, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide range of public safety electronic equipment and communications technologies.

    • Support specialized systems used in emergency response and wildfire management, including automated weather stations, smoke detection cameras, satellite communications equipment, and vehicle-mounted communications and warning systems.

    • Diagnose technical issues, assess risks and impacts, and implement effective solutions to minimize service disruptions.

    • Plan, prioritize, and manage multiple projects, service requests, and operational activities while adapting to changing priorities and responding to urgent issues.

    • Conduct preventative maintenance, equipment upgrades, testing, inspections, and quality assurance reviews to ensure reliable system performance.

    • Travel throughout Saskatchewan, including remote locations, to install, service, and support communications infrastructure and equipment.

    • Provide technical advice, support, and training to emergency responders, public safety partners, and other stakeholders.

    • Prepare and maintain accurate technical records, service documentation, inventory information, and equipment configuration records.

    • Work independently and collaboratively within a team environment to achieve operational goals and service standards.

    • Develop and present technical solutions and training to both technical and non-technical audiences.

    • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, government agencies, public safety organizations, contractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.

    • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation and provide support during emergencies, major incidents, and critical system outages.

    • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives through research, evaluation, and implementation of emerging technologies and best practices.

    Requirements:

    • Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be obtained through a two-year Electronic Engineering or Computer Science Diploma, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

    • Travel to remote locations via helicopter and ATV is required.

    • Required to physically perform tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving supplies and equipment, and work on scaffolds, roofs, ladders, and towers up to 30m.

    • There is significant in-province travel associated with this position.

    • Must hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.

    • Must be able to meet standards for Enhanced Reliability Security clearance.

    • This clearance requires Canadian Permanent Resident or Citizenship status.

    Technical Knowledge and Skills

    • Electronics theory and component-level troubleshooting of analog and digital electronic equipment.
    • RF communications systems, RF propagation, antenna systems, encryption technologies, VoIP/RoIP, and public safety communications networks.
    • Public safety technologies including two-way radios, dispatch consoles, satellite communications, thermal imaging systems, environmental monitoring equipment, drones, and HAZMAT detection devices.
    • Communication tower infrastructure, grounding and lightning protection systems, tower safety standards, and preventative maintenance practices.
    • AC/DC electrical systems, battery technologies, UPS systems, generators, and solar power systems.
    • Software, firmware, and configuration management for communications and electronic systems.
    • Project planning, quality assurance, asset management, and technical documentation practices.
    • Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
    • Proficiency using electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, RF analyzers, signal generators, and power meters.
    • Ability to fabricate, modify, and customize electronic and mechanical components using hand tools, power tools, soldering equipment, and metalworking tools.
    • Ability to install, configure, program, and maintain communications equipment and supporting infrastructure.
    • Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with stakeholders.
