    The opportunity:

    As Saskatchewan Pension Plan (SPP) continues to grow, we are excited to offer new opportunities to be part of our team.     SPP was created in 1986 and is a fully funded, capital accumulation plan created by the provincial government. SPP provides a professionally managed pension plan at low fees to individuals with little or no access to employer-sponsored pensions. SPP has over $900 M in assets under management and over 30,000 members.

    Reporting to the Senior Financial Investment Officer, the Financial Investment Officer provides accounting and administrative support to ensure the accurate and efficient operation of financial and member record processes.

    Applying practical knowledge of accounting principles, the successful candidate will be responsible for processing financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and supporting a range of accounting functions. This role includes performing reconciliations, supporting investment-related accounting activities, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and financial policies.

    The position also requires clear and professional communication with members, vendors, and other stakeholders, including explaining calculations, pension plan rules, policies, and procedures both verbally and in writing.

    The successful candidate shall be subject to a Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment.

    Completion of the Investment Funds in Canada course offered by CSI, or equivalent, is a requirement for the position.

    Responsibilities

    • Ensures the accuracy, completeness, security, and reliability of financial records by:

      • Monitoring and processing banking, investment, accounts payable, and member-related financial transactions.
      • Assisting with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial processes and reporting.
      • Performing moderately complex calculations, analysis, and reporting with a high degree of accuracy.
      • Preparing, reviewing, and reconciling financial accounts, transactions, and records.
      • Reviewing financial, statistical, and other data to identify discrepancies, trends, and errors; investigating and resolving issues as appropriate.
      • Accurately inputting, updating, maintaining, and retrieving financial data across multiple systems.
      • Interpreting and applying relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
      • Planning, prioritizing, and organizing work to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
      • Communicating clearly, professionally, and effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

    Technical Knowledge and Skills:  

    • Proficiency with computer applications: Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel; accounting software (Sage Intacct is an asset)
    • Knowledge of financial accounting principles, practices, and reconciliation procedures, with the ability to apply them in a practical work environment
    • Ability to examine, understand, explain and appropriately apply acts, regulations, policies, and procedures
    • Plan, prioritize and organize work to meet strict deadlines
    • Work independently and collaboratively to achieve team and organizational objectives
